Organic Veggies In The AM...

Yesterday Erin decided that she wanted to drive out to Riverhead, NY to go to an organic farm and market called Garden of Eve. She promised me she'd get me back in time for work at 1:00pm so I woke up early this morning, headed to her house and we drove out there. We wandered around the garden/market picking out various things to purchase and then we went to pick blackberries over on the farm.
After we had our fill of Garden of Eve we started to drive down Sound Avenue and past Briermere, so of course Erin had to pop a u-turn. She decided she need to buy a pie, as well as a few other things before we drove back home.
As we were driving back we noticed a bunch of cop cars, fire trucks, etc. so we made a detour, saw some neat stuff and figured out a round about way to get past all of the chaos on the LIE.
It was a fun morning. I'd do it again.

Belated Birthday Dinner...

While Justin and I were away on the rafting trip last weekend Justin grandfather celebrated his birthday and since we weren't around for all of the family stuff we took his grandparents out for an early dinner today (We always end up having dinner at 4:00pm when we go out with them).
They requested that we go to an Italian restaurant that neither Justin or I had ever heard of, but that was fine with us because we were glad they had deviated from the normal handful of restaurants that they tend frequent. Plus the place we ended up at was excellent. Everything we ate was wonderful and Justin's grandparents really enjoyed themselves which is all that really mattered.

After dinner Justin's grandmother insisted on going to her local Italian bakery and buying pastries for us to have for dessert. Justin and I went in with her, picked out what we wanted and then we headed back to their house to watch the Mets game and have coffee and dessert.
It was a really nice afternoon. I love spending time with his grandparents.

Library Card Table...

While I was looking for library articles to post I ran across this from Seattle Pi and just thought it was so neat that I had to post it.

 (via : Seattle Pi)

It's a table covered in library cards! I love it! A man named Tom Groves came up with the idea of contacting libraries all over the United States because he was curious to see what other libraries' card looked like and that it would be nice to start a collection. Here a letter explaining how he ended up making a table and how it ended up at the Chelmsford Public Library in Chelmsford, MA.

I honestly think this is a super neat idea and that it would be awesome to get library cards from all over the place and make my own art display with them. Hmm... Anyone wanna send me a library card from their local library?

Since When Do The Freaks Come Out During The Day...

There isn't going to be a full moon until next Wednesday but it sure feels like there is gonna be one tonight. I've dealt with so much weird crap today it isn't funny. I wasn't even in for five minutes this morning when a mother rolled in with her five kids, one of them being a toddler who was wearing nothing but a t-shirt and a diaper. I flipped when I saw this little boy running around the department with no pants on. I immediately ran to a phone to call my Director to see if I had the right to say anything to this mother. Unfortunately he was dealing with a crazy patron who claimed she paid a fine for a book she lost from another library that we actually paid for. Because he was dealing with her I never got an answer from him (Apparently he had been dealing with her since 9:30am, I came into work at 11:00am), so I ended up have a pow wow with "Amy" and "Julia" to try to figure out what to do. We decided that we needed to ask her to leave so "Amy" walked into the picture book room and told her that her child needed to be wearing pants. The woman didn't even look at her. She came back into the office to tell us what happened and then she walked right back into the room and repeated herself. Again the woman didn't answer, but five minutes later she called the rest of her children over and told them they were leaving and they left. She came back fifteen minutes later with her kids and this time they were all wearing pants.

A couple of hours later we had a patron hand "Lori" a picture book and she told her that the book had booklice. I didn't see the book or bugs on it but "Lori" did say there was a little bug on it. I called my Director when she and "Emily" asked me what they should do with the book and he told me to withdraw and chuck it.

Maybe an hour later we had a man bathing himself in our mens room. According to a patron some dude was just in there without a shirt on just giving himself a good rub down. Thankfully it was around the time that our Security Guard was in because he dealt with that one.

"Emily" got crazy attitude from a babysitter after she told her the name of an author and told her to look under the letter of the authors last name. The babysitter peaked in the stacks, told "Emily" she didn't know where to look because she wasn't a librarian. This just caused "Emily" to go on a rant about her knowing that the girl learned in school how to look up books. It wasn't good.

Then everyone was spilling drinks all over the place. We don't even allow food and drinks in our department because the carpet is still relatively new, so these people were super wrong.

In addition to all of the stuff above, I just had a lot of patrons with problems today. They weren't necessarily library problems but I had to play therapist to several mommies throughout the course of the day.

On top of everything else "Marie" called in sick claiming that her daughter wasn't feeling well when she got back from camp. We all knew she called in sick because she lives about forty minutes away and there is supposed to be a crazy storm tonight. She didn't want to drive home in the storm. So now I was supposed to get off at 7:00pm and I am working an extra two hours to cover the reference desk while "Amy" does all of her Thursday night programs.

NOTE: Our Department Head is on vacation this week, so everyone in my Department is coming to me with questions.

NYCC New Professional Pass Protocol...

I'm excited and annoyed all at the same time because I just registered to attend New York Comic Con 2012 and they changed the procedure as to how they give out professional passes this year. Unlike Comic Cons past I had to fill out a form with all of this information about where I work and what exactly I do and now I have to wait twenty-one days to find out if my application to attend has been approved. I hope it is. I love going to New York Comic Con for work. It's one of the highlights of my job.
I wonder what exactly happened for them to change their professional pass procedure. I'm guessing they were getting screwed over by fake professionals. I hope a real professional like myself and Lenni that looks forward to going get passes. I'll keep you up-to-date on what happens.

His & Her Q&A...

Last night when I was reading through all of my favorite blogs I saw that Kolie over a Stubborn Delight (One of my lovely lovely sponsors) had done a his and her Q&A with her fiancé Taylor. Obviously I e-mailed Justin after reading it and asked him very nicely if he'd fill it out. Much to my surprised he did  it (I really thought he was gonna blow me off because he'd think it was silly). So here are mine and Justin's answers to the His & Her Q&A... Be warned, my boyfriend is super snarky...

What will your firstborn daughters name be?
His: Maybe you can tell me...that is if you can find me in my super secret overseas hideaway.
Hers: Lola Marie. Lola was my grandmother's nickname.

What is your biggest shopping pet peeve?
His: Picking out greeting cards. Bane of my existence.
Hers: A lack of cashiers. I hate when it there is a long line and not enough cashiers.

If you could have any single superpower what would it be and why?

His: Turn water into fine Trappist beer. Because if I'm going to get murdered by "Her" eyes I might as well go down having a good time.
Hers: Kill people with my eyes.

If you got a life-supply subscription to any magazine what magazine would you choose?
His: The internet has made magazines obsolete for me. The mags would pile up unread. Please don't ever send me magazines.
Hers: Nylon. I love Nylon.

What was your favorite subject in elementary school (recess and lunch don't count)?
His: No favorite. Was stronger in Math/Science though. Unlike “Her”, I have the art skills of a mentally disabled sloth.
Hers: Art or chorus.

You just scored $5. What do you spend it on?
His: Two authentic Mexican tacos w/rice and beans plate from my local Mexican place.
Hers: Coffee. Preferably iced coffee, light and sweet.

What were your thoughts when you first met your other half?
His: “Her” attractiveness takes a big upswing when she ditches the Aunt Jemima bandana.
Hers: Where the fuck did he come from?! He is cute.

If you could punch a company/business in the face who would you want to punch?
His: New York Yankees for providing an endless fountain of happiness to a fan-base that is comprised primarily of loud-mouthed douche bags.
Hers: I have to think about this...

Favorite classic Disney princess?
His: Jasmine, the most attractive of the DPs. She puts the “ass” in “classic”.
Hers: Ariel all the way.

If you could reincarnate into any animal after you die what animal would you want to be?
His: One of those monkeys who steal the alcoholic drinks from the beach tourists.
Hers: Great white shark.

How Are You Not In Jail...

I swear I cannot stand "Julia" one bit. I was having a conversation with "Favorite Page #1" and our night custodian (He is this loud Sicilian-American guy who is funny as hell) about my weekend and how the trip went, obviously "Julia" was being a creeper and eavesdropping. While talking about it I had mentioned that I wasn't a fan of Phil's sister's boyfriend, blah blah blah. This caused our custodian to start cracking jokes about how mean I am and that I have different levels of mean, etc. We continue talking and joking around when "Julia" looks at me and asks me how I've managed to keep out of jail. Really?!?!! I wanted to smack her. What is wrong with her?! She needs to not speak to me anymore because she makes me angry every time she opens her mouth.

LOVE♥CLUB: July 2012 Box...

• Just Lovely Things - Glitter Love Knot Headband •
• Sharaya Mikael Five Song EP •
 • Baby Boy Bakery Organic Caramels •
• River & Bridge Notecards •
• Lovely Little Whimsy Bamboo Bead Necklace •

My second LOVE♥CLUB box came in over the weekend while I was Upstate on the rafting trip and I'm just as happy with this months box as I was with last months box.
This month I got the cutest silver bamboo bead necklace (I'm actually wearing it right now and "Amy" was telling me how pretty it was before). It is so simple and pretty. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of it.
Also in the box was a yummy salted caramel from a company called Baby Boy Bakery. I didn't read the description which said to pop the caramel in the refrigerator before enjoying, so I ended up just licking the melted caramel off the wrapper. It was messy but tasty.

In addition to those items I also received some lavander bath salts which smell awesome and I cannot wait to use, a sweet silver headband that Heather over at JustLove.ly made (I've worn the one from my last box several times with my hair pinned up and I've gotten a lot of complements on it, so we'll see how this new one goes over with the peanut gallery), as well as a five song EP by Sharaya Mikael that I'll have to throw into a CD player and listen to. Overall, I love it. The LOVE♥CLUB box is most definitely my favorite monthly subscription service.
