5 Ways To Enjoy Valentine's Day At Home

As someone that refuses to go out on Valentine's Day, I thought this article from one of my partners had some good ideas for those of you looking for last minute at home Valentine's Day stuff.
FIVE WAYS TO ENJOY
VALENTINES DAY AT HOME

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and with that many people will be making reservations and flocking to restaurants for that romantic night. To avoid the crowd, you can opt for a Valentine’s Day at home that can be as exciting, romantic and entertaining without having to fight the crowds or pay for an expensive pre-fixe meal at a local restaurant.

Below, find five easy ideas to have a fun Valentine’s Day from the comfort of your own home:

Romantic Dinner Delivery
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday, and for those that work a 9-5, cooking a romantic dinner isn’t the easiest option after work. We suggest using Postmates, which offers first time users a coupon of up to $100 worth of delivery credit. All you have to do is download the app, decide what you feel like having for dinner and order! Don’t forget to use the code “TKYEU” to redeem the free delivery.

Disconnect & Reconnect With Your Significant Other
If you have Xfinity, you can disconnect from your WiFi and reconnect with your loved one! All you have to do is download the xFi app. This app allows you to “pause” your WiFi connection from whichever device you want. It is a great way to ensure that you’re completely present with your significant other and not glued to your phone.

Romantic Night of Streaming Latin American Films
Who doesn’t love to stay home and watch movies? There’s so many great streaming services out there, but you definitely need to give Pantaya a try. Pantaya is a platform that streams the best in Latin American film; there’s nothing like a Latin American romantic comedy! You can download the streaming service through any mobile device, and you’re in luck because here’s a free trial to check it out. Below are two Valentine's Day-themed releases worth checking out:
Tales of an Immoral Couple (Drama)
Lucio and Martina had a passionate romance during their youth at a strict Catholic high school. 25 years later they unexpectedly run into each other in the city of San Miguel de Allende.Their immediate reaction is to pretend to be happily married and even with children on the way. As they try to maintain their false lives in a comedy of errors, we find out just what happened between the young couple so long ago.

El Que Busca Encuentra (Romantic Comedy)
El Que Busca Encuentra tells the story of Marcos (Claudio Lafarga) and Esperanza (Ana Brenda Contreras), two children who fall in love when they lose at Estadio Azteca during a football game. More than 20 years later in which they have not been seen again, life has taken them by different paths, but the memory of that infantile love is so strong that they are able to find again and to have a magic appointment. However, through a terrible confusion they separate again, so they will have to find a way to get back together.
Winter Olympics 2018
It’s very common for couples to have opposite taste when it comes to sports. Women might like to watch sports games every once in a while, meanwhile some men watch every game religiously, but everyone seems to find a middle ground when it comes to the Olympic Games. Find that middle ground this Valentine's Day by tuning into the Winter Olympics & watch the alpine skiing finals or women’s ice skating. Team USA will be playing hockey against Slovenia that day & the men’s team will be in the finals for halfpipe snowboarding. If you have Xfinity cable service, you can use the Sports app which allows you to watch any game & keep up with the scoreboard

Smart Home
If you like to keep up with the latest technology, there are various products that you can add to your home so that you can have a futuristic romantic evening. If you’re reading this, you still have time to go out and buy the latest technology to enhance your evening. You can buy a Nest thermostat that allows you to adjust the temperature from your phone. You can also install the Xfinity Home service and control your Phillips Hue lights and dim them to set the perfect romantic setting.
I don't know about you but I'm down with these ideas. I love the idea of "pausing" the wifi because I am very guilty of looking at my phone while I should be paying attention to actual people. Also, I've never used Postmates but I'd be down to try it. And I love love love smart home products, so I would love to be able to dim the lights and change the temperature from my phone before I pause my wifi.

What do you think? Lemme know!

Cookin' Librarian | Lobster & Shrimp Pot Pie...

Since posting the picture of the Valentine's Day meal I made for myself and Justin, I've had a lot of people ask me how I made it. So I thought I'd just do a quick post with the recipe.

Unfortunately like 99% of the things I cook there is no exact recipe because I eyeball everything. But here is a rough recipe for all of you...

• Lobster Tails • Jumbo Shrimp • Carrots • Celery • Onion • Shallots • Garlic • Potatoes •
• Seafood Stock • Heavy Cream • Tarragon • Chives • Puff Pastry • Flour • Egg •

Instructions
• Preheat oven to 375°.
• Clean and devein the shrimp and lobster tails. Set aside.
• Mince three cloves of garlic and a whole shallot.
• Chop the carrots, celery, onion and potatoes into bit size pieces.
• Saute the carrots, celery, onion, shallot and garlic in a pot.
• In a separate pot, boil the chopped potatoes until fork tender and drain. Set aside.
• Add seafood stock to the pot with the sauteed vegetables. Bring to a boil.
• Add in the potatoes that were set aside, as well as the heavy cream.
• Chop the tarragon and chives, then add to the mixture in the pot.
• Take a ladle full of the hot liquid and whisk in two tablespoons of flour to make a slurry.
• Pour the slurry into the boiling pot and let boil for a couple of minutes until thick.
• Add lobster and shrimp meat. Stir.
• Take the mixture and ladle into ramekins.
• Cut puff pastry into squares. Put two pieces on top of each ramekin. Score with a knife, then egg wash.
• Place ramekins on top of a baking sheet. Place in oven and bake until the puff pastry is golden brown.
• Let sit for five minutes once out of the oven.
• Garnish with chives and enjoy!

Optional Step
Take the shells from the lobster and shrimp, as well as the bits of vegetables and put them in a pot with just enough water to cover them and boil for thirty or so minutes to make your own broth -- Which is what I did.

If you try out my recipe lemme know!

Happy Valentine's Day...

Even though Justin and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day (Our dating anniversary is in two weeks and my birthday is four to five days later depending on the year, so I usually get one lump celebration) and I am the Sunday librarian today, I wanted to wish you all a happy Valentine's Day!
I hope you all have a wonderful day whether you celebrate or not!! And I hope you all enjoy the stupid little painting I made for all of you while I was at work the other day.

Valentine's Day Wishlist...

Since Valentine's Day is creeping up in a few days I thought I'd put together a little wishlist even though I am very well aware that Justin will not be purchasing me any of these things because he did just buy me tickets to see Beyoncé in addition to just booking us a trip to Japan and Hong Kong, but hey a girl can dream...

1. HERMÈS Eau de Pamplemousse Rose Eau de Cologne Bottle -- $175.00
2. Michael Kors Jet Set Large Saffiano Leather Crossbody -- $168.00
3. Kate Spade Valentines Day Bangle Engraved Idiom Bangle -- $58.00
4. Diptyque 'Rosaviola' Candle -- $67.00

Is there anything you're hoping your significant other gets you? I'm super nosy and would love to know!
