My Photos Are Back | Photobucket Set Our Photos Free

So as I was working on my post for A Fantastic Woman yesterday, I was going through my previous movie posts just for reference when I noticed that all of my older posts had their photos back (Which made me feel like screaming and jumping up and down for joy because I'm so happy).

As you may or may not know, last summer the photo server Photobucket went under a bunch of new changes and decided that they would no longer allow posting on third party websites. Causing myself and a tons of other people to lose all of their photos on their blogs. Which, in addition to all of the bullshit I'd been dealing with (And still are dealing with), was so disheartening to me and made me feel like I had wasted the past seven years blogging.

When I went to look into why my photos were back I saw this tweet from Photobucket:

https://twitter.com/photobucket?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

And after seeing that I went straight to the website to see what was going on. Apparently, like the tweet says, they are under new management and revamped their plan options to now allow third party hosting for those who pay for an account (Which they were doing last year but for a stupid amount of money).

Here's their new pricing break down from the website for anyone interest:

When you sign up for a Photobucket account, you are prompted to select a plan.

Our Beginner plan is our free plan and includes:
  • 2 GB of storage space (Approximately 400 photos).
If you need more storage or access to 3rd Party Image Hosting, you'll want to upgrade your account to one of our paid subscriptions plans. With a paid Photobucket plan, you receive all the benefits of the Beginner plan, plus many more!

Please visit the following link to upgrade: Choose Your Plan

Pricing
The cost of a paid account varies depending on your needs. Please note, yearly subscriptions are billed annually.

Beginner +
  • You may choose to pay either monthly at $2.49/month or yearly for $26.99/year (equivalent to $2.25/month).
  • 2 GB of storage space (Approximately 400 photos).
Intermediate
  • You may choose to pay either monthly at $6.49/month or yearly for $69.99/year (equivalent to $5.83/month).
  • 20 GB of storage space (Approximately 4,000 photos).
When you upgrade your plan, you gain the following benefits:
  • 3rd Party Image Hosting: Link the photos you have uploaded to Photobucket to your forums, blogs or other websites for viewing.
  • No Advertisements: Enjoy an ad free Photobucket experience as long as you are logged into your Plus account.
  • Premium Support: You have direct access to our tech support team.
Now that they are offering photo hosting for a reasonable amount, I went and got myself an Intermediate Plan. And I feel a renewal of energy to continue blogging because I was really so upset last summer when I lost everything. It was just heartbreaking to me.

So, are you just as happy as I am about Photobucket setting photos free and giving us reasonable options? Or are you done with them for doing everyone dirty last year? Lemme know!

Funny Little Boys, Slappy The Dummy & A Retweet From R.L. Stine...

The other day at work I had the funniest little boy come in. He walked up to the reference desk and asked me if I knew where the Goosebumps books were because he wanted a book about Slappy the Dummy. I proceed to bring him over to the R.L. Stine books and pull out all of the books about Slappy.

As I show him each title out he goes "Nope... That's not it..." We go through every title there about Slappy and none of the books I showed him as the book he is looking for. So I have him follow me back to the reference desk so I can hop on Amazon to see if we can find the book he is looking for together. After a couple of minutes he points at the screen and goes "That's it! That's the one I want..."

I look at him and look at the title, then I laugh. I proceeded to tell him that it was the first book I showed him when we walked over to the collection of Goosebumps books. So I asked if he wanted to go back over and get the copy we had of Night of the Living Dummyand he says no. I ask him why and he starts telling me that he wants the one on the screen because the cover of the one we have at the library freaks him out.
I look at him and then his grandfather and explain that it's the same exact story, it just was re-released and has a new cover. But no, the cover on the copy that we had freaked him out so he didn't want it. I offered to put a piece of paper over the cover so he didn't have to look at it but he said no.

I told him since we already owned the book that I couldn't buy the one with the cover he wanted and he was out of luck. He said okay and thanked me for looking.

I just thought the whole thing was just too funny so I tweeted it and added R.L. Stine Twitter handle (@RL_Stine) to my tweet and he retweeted it! He was one of my favorite authors as a child, so my inner nine-year-old was super excited.
The whole thing was funny and neat, and it made my day. So It thought I'd share it with all of you.

Favorited Tweet...

So, I tweeted about the post I made about Mr. Kate's Beautymarks and someone over at Mr. Kate favorited my tweet! I'm probably overly excited about it but whatever! I adore Mr. Kate so I think it's super cool.

BeautyCon NYC

Yesterday I attended BeautyCon NYC and here's how that was...

Since we purchased PRO tickets we were told we could get in an hour early, so my sister and I woke up super early to get ready, catch the train, meet up with her friend and YouTuber Samantha and get to Pier 36 where the event was taking place.

The getting ready to meeting up with Samantha went well, but the actual getting to Pier 36 was a bit of a cluster. The cab driver we ended up with had no idea where he was going and we ended up having to use Google Maps to get the directions ourselves and telling him where to go.

Once we arrived at the actual location it was probably 8:30am and we thought we'd only have to wait thirty minutes on the line -- Oh, we were wrong.

We waited and waited. Niki whom I meet at LuckyFABB last year, happens to be friends with Samantha and she showed up along with her friend Carla, so we were all talking. We waited some more... Liz showed up. And the waiting continued until around 9:30am -- Thirty minutes after we were told PROS & VIPS could go inside -- and then we were shuffled through to another line, that was still outside of the venue, that we had to wait on.

We were all talking and complaining at that point, so I don't remember exactly how long we were waiting on the second line. But eventually we got inside.
Once inside we made the mistake of looking around and not heading to various booths while there weren't huge lines, thus we ended up spending a majority good chunk of our time at BeautyCon waiting on lines to get the "free stuff" we paid PRO price to get. So that sucked.

While on the bareMinerals line (Which took forever and a year to get to the front of) Samantha's friend Bailey showed up, so I had a chance to talk with her as we waited to get color matched with their new bareSKIN Pure Brightening Serum Foundation, which we all got full size of with the Perfecting Face Brush they made to go with it. So that was nice.

But because the lines went on forever we didn't get to attend any of the panels. Which was disappointing because some of my personal favorite YouTube gurus were speaking at them. But from what I heard from people walking around, the main stage area was packed and you couldn't hear anything.

I did thankfully get to meet one of my favorite YouTubers Claire Marshall. I had a chance to speak to her for a hot second, got a hug and took a very unflattering picture with her. I also got to meet P'Trique and take a picture. But I missed out on Kandee Johnson and Marlena of Makeup Geek.

To be honest with you, when we got the tickets we didn't know what exactly to expect but this event was so underwhelming. There were tons of teens/tweens with their parents, which none of us expected. We all thought it would the kind of event you could do a little networking, meet some YouTube gurus, check out some make up and beauty brands, etc.

So that being said, I won't be attending BeautyCon ever again. It was an experience and something to do on a Saturday but I spent way too much money to be so underwhelmed. But despite being disappointed by the event, I am happy I had a chance to meet Samantha, Carla and Bailey.

I'm Glad There Was No Social Media 10+ Years Ago...

Last night Chas sent me a direct Instagram video of her first cellphone with a text message I sent her over ten years ago and it got me thinking about how I'm so glad social media wasn't around when we were in high school.
I mean don't get me wrong, the stuff I said in the text message (Which there is more to but it has my name one it, thus I didn't post the entire video on this bad boy) I'd totally still say today -- Actually when I told Justin about it he said "Proof you haven't changed much since high school..." But I probably wouldn't have hidden my real name, etc.

I can't imagine having the things sixteen year old Misfit said around for the world to see more than a decade later. Granted I have a potty mouth on Twitter now but there are still things that I don't put up there (e.g. - Justin and I have had some funny fucked up conversations that I have wanted to tweet about but I know better than to do that). Plus all of the things I say on my Twitter now I have the balls to say out loud.

So, what do you guys think? Are you glad Twitter, etc. weren't around when you were in high school?

I'm On Vine, Are You?...

I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm on Vine (It is a video-sharing service app that Twitter recently launched -- Think Instagram for videos) now and I wanted to know if any of you guys are using the app also. If you are leave me a comment and I'll totally check out your videos.

Are You A Librarian That Loves Cats?...

Earlier while I was reading through Twitter I saw that one of the people I follow post link to this in a tweet. I was so amusing to me that I had to share it with you... If you click on the picture it goes to the listing.
It's a Craigslisting for a librarian to feed cats! I love it! People are so weird.

This Just Pinned...

I got a tweet from Kelly (@TheBookButcher, formally @LemmeLibrary) about a blog project she started up called "This Just Pinned" and since I decided to do it here is the information about it...

What is better than spending hours on Pinterest looking for amazing things to make, bake or laugh at? Looking at what other bloggers have spent hours looking for!! I have a mild obsession with Pinterest. I have a feeling that a lot of you share my obsession. So instead of having a 12 step program to solve our Pinterest Addiction, let's get together and share our addiction! I hope that you will flock here and share your weekly Pinterest finds.

Rules
1. Continue to spend hours on Pinterest each week.
2. Create a post each Friday that highlights your favorites of the week.
3. Come to The Book Butcher each Friday morning and share the link to your post. Link to the actual post, not your whole blog or Pinterest page.
4. Lots of kids visit this site, so rated R pins are discouraged, but I am not one to censor.
5. Visit the blogs that have linked up. Leave a comment. Make a new friend.
6. Don't link to your Pinterest board.
7. You are welcome, but not required to use this image in your Pinterest post.

Library Day In The Life Project...

Sharon (@ReadingChick on Twitter) suggested that I take part in the 'Library Day in the Life Project' and document a day in my library life after I Tweeted about my decision to tally how many times I say "Stop running" throughout the course of a week. So here it goes...

Scheduled Hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm
Arrival: 8:50am
  • Spent the first 30 minutes of the day having casual chit chat with "Marie" and my Department Head. (Talked about our weekends, Erin jumping out of a plane because it's her birthday today, etc.)
  • Wore a fake mustache for a bit.
  • Ate breakfast in between reference questions.
  • Canceled a craft program that I was supposed to have on Wednesday because only one person signed up to do it.
  • Dealt with several annoying mothers. Mommy #1 was annoyed at our lack of coloring sheets & I had to explain to her why we don't have anymore. Mommy #2 (aka "Bad Mommy #1") forgot yet again to bring in her child's birth certificate even though my Department Head put her in her place the other day.
  • Answered texted messages from my friend's boyfriend about a party my sister and I are throwing in a few weeks.
  • Dealt with questions pertaining to the kiddie program that was going on throughout the course of the morning.
  • Looked through various blogs (The Dainty Squid, Little Messy La, etc.) and Etsy shops to get ideas for crafts.
  • Answered some reference questions.
Lunch Break: 1:01pm-2:01pm
  • Got a phone call from a mother looking for her teenage daughter who should have been home already after finishing up her volunteering hours for the day -- Her daughter was still here, she is gabbing with her friends at a table.
  • Watched a father walk back and forth from the OPAC to the stacks attempting to find books on his own -- I told him if he needed help I'd get the books for him, he insisted on doing it himself because he didn't wanna "bother" me.
  • Tried to find books for a 12-year-old boy that was visiting for the summer from Costa Rica who needed to strength his reading in English.
  • Signed up kids for computers.
  • Accused a teenage boy of leaving porn running on a computer last time he was in the library.
  • Dealt with one of the annoying mothers that comes in with her bad little children. He son wanted a book on the Little Mermaid that wasn't the Disney, but she didn't know what exactly he wanted. So there was a lot of guessing on my part.
  • Had meaningless chit chat with "Amy" for a bit.
  • Explained to a teenager from out of district why we no longer had a manga club.
  • Signed up more kids for computers.
  • Told the same girl several times that she needed to stop running in the library -- She didn't listen.
  • Helped parents find their kids books from the school summer reading lists.
  • Read the Huffington Post.
  • Signed someones kid up for the craft that was going on that evening.
  • Was inspired to find photos of awesome things made of Legos to show my Department Head after reading an article in the Huffington Post.
  • Told my Department Head about said pictures when she came back to work the evening (She was working a split shift).
  • Told everyone I'd see them tomorrow.
Departure: 5:03pm

And that was my day at work. Not very eventful, but not super boring. It was an okay day.

Little Big's Follow Fridays...

I noticed while I was reading through Little Big's (exlibris on Twitter) blog that one of my tweets made it on to her Follow Friday (#FF or #FollowFriday) post this week. For those of you not familiar with her blog, every Friday she posts her favorite tweets of the week as an example of why you should follow those people on Twitter. So, yours truly made the list this week with the following beauty of a tweet.

After seeing this one I went back into her archives to see if any of my other tweets had made it on to her blog and one other one did in April.

I think it's awesome that Little Big (exlibris) does this every week and I wanna thank her for thinking I'm interesting enough to follow on Twitter.

Oh, if for some reason you still don't get it...

Little Big's Explanation Of Her Follow Friday Posts:
Follow Friday is a meme from Twitter. It’s a time to recommend some of your followers for other people to follow. It’s a great way to find new people who tweet interesting things. I took it a step further and I retweeted my favorite tweets from the previous week so people could see why I was recommending them. After awhile I was retweeting so many tweets I moved the whole thing over here so as not to flood my follower’s twitter streams. I also pick my favorite tweet to feature for Tweet of the Week and intersperse the whole things with photos from the past week–usually of my daughter. You can find them here.

Case Of The Mondays...

If you follow me on Twitter you already know that I was feeling super feisty today. It was a combination of it being Monday, stupid questions/comments and the kids being off from school for spring break. The only good thing about this day was that "Sarah" was off from work, so I didn't have to deal with her on top of all of the stupid little things that happened. I hope Tuesday will be a little better and I'll be less moody.

Tattoo Drama...

Apparently my Director did care about my tattoo, he just didn't say anything to me. He said to "Leslie" that he couldn't believe I got a tattoo without asking -- I typically ask him if I can do things (i.e. - Dying my hair, getting my nose pierced when I was a Page, etc), but because he and some of the others made such a big deal out of the staff's tattoos I said screw it. I did apologize for not being "courteous" and mentioning it to him. Jokingly he said the punishment was death for getting the tattoo -- He jokes around a lot and can be hard to read at times, so I really can't tell what is going on in that brain of his.

But honestly I don't feel anyone on the staff has any right to say anything to me because there is nothing in our contract about tattoos and there is no policy on the matter, he just verbalized to people that he wanted a committee to gather whenever someone wanted a tattoo to deem if it was appropriate or not. I don't think it is right to tell people what they can or cannot do with their bodies. And I mean, I understand he is trying to prevent the staff from getting "offensive" tattoos but really? I don't even know how one would even begin to enforce this garbage.

FYI: There are three librarians on staff that have two tattoos or more, there are several Clerks with tattoos and even our payroll lady has a tattoo. His tattoo thing started when "Leslie" and Lenni got Dewey numbers tattoos on their arms -- The pretty little fancy fonted numbers reminded him of concentration camp tattoos.

That all being said I have reached out to the librarians of Twitter and asked everyone that follows me if they could send me a picture or two of their tattoos and lemme know what state they are in so I can compile pictures and data to show him that he is being kind of ridiculous. Here are some of their pictures. Thank you all!!

Bad Thursday...

If you follow me on Twitter you already know that the first half of yesterday sucked. I got to work to discover that the internet was still down (we were without internet access for twenty-four hours), my back was still hurting me and there was foolishness going on. I had to deal with stupid questions, patrons taking down our decorations so their kids could play with them, the new dress code policy and "Julia's" stupidity.

"Julia" called around 10:30am asking if our Department Head was in. I told her she wasn't and I asked her if she could go to one of the local preschools for me at 1:00pm because my back was still hurting me and holding a picture book properly for a half an hour wasn't going to help my situation. She said yes and I said to her that I'd see her a 12:00pm. Fast forward an hour and a half, she calls back and tells me she didn't realize that she had to be in at 12:00pm and it would take her about an hour to get in from where she lives (at this point I'd been alone in the department for an hour sans internet). I got pissed and called our Director's office to tell him what happened. He decided to call the preschool t0 tell them that we were short staffed and that we wouldn't be able to come read to the kids. He came down to my department to ask me questions and write a note to the Department Head about "Julia" being late. As he was sitting there with me guess who strolls in? She showed up at 12:45pm and there was a frantic conversation about the preschool visit that ended with her running out to go to the school.

I hate that she doesn't seem to understand the repercussions of her stupid behavior. Her coming in late left me the sole librarian in the Youth Services Department, forced me to have to take a later lunch break and she caused me to have a headache.

The day started to get better once I got back from lunch. The internet came back on, I met "Favorite Page #1" for a quick coffee break before she had to come in for work, she gave me the cutest pink earrings that she made for me, we ate the chocolate peppermint cake I made and we made a date to go to Alice's Tea Cup.

Another bright spot in my cloudy day was when one of the patrons I know found out that I was going to see Weezer at Roseland this weekend and he told me he does security for Roseland and he was gonna try to hook me up -- I actually have to call him later.

After work I went home to get ready for my father's work holiday party. I must say I had way more fun at his party than I had at mine. The food was wonderful, they had an open bar with good booze, a great DJ and I knew tons of people. I got drunk, danced with friends and even a few patrons. It was a good time.
