Overdue Archives: Mini Vacation Upstate, NY

A couple of weeks back Justin and I took a little road trip in the Tesla* to a little Airbnb on Silverlake in Perry, New York for a few days to kind of make up for the fact that we didn't get to go to Central Europe for two and a half weeks like we had planned before COVID. Our trip didn't go as planned for reasons I can't mention just yet but Justin and I made the best of it.

Monday, September 14th 2020
We were originally supposed to leave Long Island at 7:00am but didn't end up hitting the road until almost 6:00pm because of various reason. So what was supposed to be a scenic daytime drive Upstate turned into a nighttime drive where I was constantly asking Justin how he was doing until we got to our Airbnb at 1:30am.

We woke up at a decent hour considering how late we got in then proceeded to shower and check out the property before we decided to drive to the Wegmans in Geneseo, NY to pick up some supplies for our stay.

On our way back to the Airbnb we stopped for lunch outside at Gatherings At The Depot and then did a little antiquing at 2nd Time Around Consignment.

After picking up a few items we headed back to the property to enjoy some time by the lake. Unfortunately we both forgot it got cold Upstate earlier than it does on Long Island, so all of our kayaking and fishing dreams did not come true. Justin offered to take me antiquing and we drove to Mount Morris to visit the multiple shops on Main Street including; Allegiance Antiques, Carvings & More, Finders Keepers, and another shop that I will not name because they treated Justin and I badly when we went to pay.

Eventually we headed back, stopping for fire wood on the way, set up the firepit for the evening and headed to Hole In The Wall for our first dinner inside of a restaurant since March.

When we got back Justin tried to get a fire going and for some reason the wood we bought would not catch despite all of his efforts (And he can build one hell of a fire normally). So we said screw it, went inside and watched Away (2020 - Present) on Netflix until we got tired.

Initially we were planning on visiting Letchworth State Park but unfortunately we were unable to go but we did decide to drive up about an hour to Buffalo.

While in Buffalo we stopped by Lloyd Taco Factory to grab lunch that we ate in the car. While we were eating we were discussing what we should do. We tossed around going to The Buffalo Zoo (Which is the third oldest zoo in the United States), eating buffalo wings at Anchor Bar, visiting Forest Lawn Cemetery where Rick James is buried, checking out the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, etc. Eventually we just decided to drive another twenty or so minutes to visit Niagara Falls State Park.

While at the park we took a ride on the Maid of the Mist because why not? It was a nice, moist little boat trip and I'm happy we did it because I didn't get to see the falls from a boat when I went to Niagara Falls as a child.

After chilling at the park for a bit we decided to drive back. Once we were back we went to Silver Lake Brewing Project so Justin could have a flight and we could discuss what we were going to do for dinner. Eventually we picked a spot for dinner, ate and then unsuccessfully went in search of Duraflame logs to try and build a fire by the lake.

Since there was no fire to be had, we just decided to go to sleep.

We got up relatively early to pack our things, do a light cleaning of the property and head back to Long Island. On the way back home we decided to stop by the Corning Museum of Glass, which was incredible and I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area.

Once we were done at the museum we drove the five or so hours back home.

Despite not being the trip that I planned, it was very enjoyable and I'm glad that we got to get away for a few days with everything that's been going on.

Road Trip To Vermont | "Favorite Page #1's" Wedding & Some Ice Cream...

As I mentioned in my little New Years Eve post, I was traveling to Vermont this past weekend to attend "Favorite Page #1's" wedding. So here is how that and my first weekend of 2016 went...

On new year's day I was woken up by a phone call from my sister telling me that she had been sitting outside of my apartment for ten minutes because I did not wake up to her five text messages. So I threw on some clothes, let her in and proceeded to make us a little breakfast before we packed up my car and jumped in to begin the drive from Long Island to Vermont.

Despite being a six and a half hour drive, it went relatively quickly. My sister and I spent the majority of the time singing, car dancing, snacking and Snapchatting.
Once we made it to our hotel in Burlington, we checked in and immediately jumped into the bed (I was being cheap and got us a room with a king size bed instead of multiple beds) to relax a little bit before having to get ready for the rehearsal dinner.

At the rehearsal dinner my sister and I sat with "Favorite Page #1's" family, as well as the bridesmaids and we had a lovely time. It was such a nice pre-wedding get together.

After dinner we went straight back to the hotel just to chill because we knew that we'd have to be up early the next day so I could go help the bride get ready for her big day.

Fast forward to the next day... My sister and I wake up before 6:00AM to shower and gather all of our things before heading over to the wedding venue where we met the bride and bridesmaids for wedding morning breakfast and primping.

As one of her gifts, I did "Favorite Page #1's" makeup for her big day and told her to let me know whatever else she wanted me to do because she was amazing and did so much for me on my wedding day.
So I helped her and some of the other girls get ready. Then my sister and I hung out with them until it was time for us to be seated right before the ceremony.

The wedding started at 11:00AM and went until a little bit before 4:00PM. Everything about the wedding was beautiful and sweet just like "Favorite Page #1" is.
After the wedding my sister and I headed back to the hotel to change out of our dresses and relax a little before heading into downtown Burlington to wander around and grab something to eat.

We ended up at The Farmhouse Tap & Grill for a nice cheese filled dinner, which prompted us to ask the waitress where we should go to pick up some good Vermont cheese. She pointed us just down the block to City Market/Onion River Co-Op.

While at City Market/Onion River Co-Op I picked up a couple of different cheese, maple syrup and some other goodies made in Vermont. Then we wandered up and down Church Street Market Place before heading back to the hotel and packing up our bags.

The next day we left the hotel around 9:30AM so that we could hit up the Ben & Jerry's Factory as soon as it opened. We went on the little half an hour tour that they offer, ate a scoop of free ice cream (It was Salted Caramel Blondie, which is Salted Caramel Core in the pints, for anyone wondering) and walked up a snowy hill to check out the Flavor Graveyard before really driving back to Long Island.
The drive back was pretty much the same as the drive up with the exceptions of that it took a little longer and we stopped at a Cracker Barrel (There are no Cracker Barrels on or near Long Island, so whenever we see one we stop and eat at it because we love them) for some food.

So yeah, that was my first weekend of 2016. I took a nice road trip with my sister (We didn't fight at all) and I got to be apart of the union of two people I care dearly about. It was a great way to start off the year.

Significant Other Tag...

Since we're getting married tomorrow and shortly after you will probably be bombarded with wedding posts, I thought I'd do a little significant other tag so you guys know a little bit more about Justin and I.

1. Where Did You Meet Your Significant Other?
Justin and I met in high school.

2. What Was Your First Date?
Dinner and a movie. Daredevil (2003) to be exact and we made out.

3. Where Was Your First Kiss & How Was It?
The day after Valentine's Day 2003 under a blanket while we were hanging out watching a movie with friends and it was good enough for me to break up with my boyfriend to date Justin -- Yes, I was a horrible seventeen-year-old and I kissed Justin while I was dating someone else.

4. Did You Know They Were The One?
At the moment when we first kissed? No. But I knew I loved him right quick.

5. What Was Your First Impression?
The funny thing about this is that I have a note that I wrote to Chastity somewhere at my parents' house talking about the first time I saw him, which was in our 11th grade US History class. And it went something like "Who is that kid over in X row? I've never seen him before. He is kinda cute."

6. When Did You Meet The Family?
He had met my family before I met his because we were kinda friends before we started dating. I met his mom and stepfather a couple of weeks into us dating. FYI -- She did not like me.

7. Do You Have A Tradition?
What kind of tradition? This is not a very specific question...

8. What Was Your First Road Trip?
The summer between high school and college we drove down to Virginia to go hang out at my cousins's house and go to Busch Gardens, etc.

9. Who Said I Love You First & Where Were You?
I don't remember. Probably me.

10. What Do You Argue About The Most?
About how I'm the one always making plans for us and how he can never call anyone to make plans.

11. Do You Hate Any Of Their Exs?
I'm the only girlfriend he has ever had.

12. What's Their Job?
Can't say, but I will say it's the reason there are no pictures of him up on the blog.

13. Who Wears The Pants In The Relationship?
Totally me. Sorry Justin...

Ocean City, MD Vlog: Part One...

As I mentioned in my 50 Random Facts About Me post (It was fact number forty-nine) I wanted to attempt to vlog, so I recorded almost my entire trip to Ocean City with my friends (Which is why I'm going to have to break the vlog up into a bunch of parts) and here is part one...

WARNING: I'm dropping some f-bombs in this video...

I'll probably get the other parts out sometime next week seeing as I was sick and unable to edit the footage together prior to this because I used my MAC at work to do so.
