Being K's Bridesmaid | Bridesmaid Dress Shopping...

Over the weekend my sister, Lisa and I went on our first outing to look for bridesmaids dresses. We started off the not-so-long shopping excursion at Here Comes The Bridesmaid here on Long Island.
Aside from being lazy and not wanting to travel into New York City, we made an appointment at Here Comes The Bridesmaid because they told my sister that they had a selection of plus size dresses. And as you can probably guess, they had all of two actual plus size dresses so Lisa was the one who was really trying on the dresses.
After having Lisa try on a handful of dresses at Here Comes The Bridesmaid (She didn't wanna be photographed, so I have no pictures of her in the dresses we were kinda interested in) we decided to go to the mall to check out the selection of Adrianna Papell dresses at Macy's. They ended up not having a single dress we wanted to look at from our hours of Pinning but we found a couple of new dresses to throw Lisa in, all which were just okay.

All in all we aren't 100% on any one particular dress but we going to look into a couple of Mori Lee Geometric Patterned Sequins dresses (Not in the color below, but in taupe) because they go with her art deco theme.

So yeah, nothing is definite but I'm sure we'll pick something out soon and then I'll have to do it all over again for Phil in a few weeks.

Being P's Groomswoman | The Engagement Party...

This past Saturday night was Phil's engagement (Or engaygment) party where he finally asked people to be in his bridal groom party, which includes yours truly and my lovely husband.

He gave each of his nine party members (Yes, there are nine people on each grooms' side) a shot glass with our names, the wedding date and "Groomswoman" or "Groomsman" etched into it. And he gave his dad, whom he asked in the sweetest speech ever to be his best man, a beer glass with stuff etched on it. It was really cute.

Unfortunately I didn't take very many pictures because the lighting was really bad at the place where they had the party (And two days before the party I broke out in rashes/hives from eating something from a fast food restaurant, so my face was and still is jacked up). But despite a lack of photographic evidence, we had a great time at the party.

Being K's Bridesmaid | Wedding Dress Shopping...

Over the weekend I had my first official duty as one of my sister's bridesmaids. I went dress shopping with my sister, our mother and Lisa. We went to two bridal shops here on Long Island, Village Bridal and Bridal Reflections in search of THE dress.
While we were at the first shop she officially asked Lisa and I to be her bridesmaids with these super cute and hilarious gifts that her wedding planners (Our friends Eileen and Jade) put together.
She didn't purchase a dress while we were out shopping but I'm pretty sure that she is going to end back up at Village Bridal to put a deposit on one of the dresses she tried on because she was pretty in love with it but wanted to check out her other options. We'll just have to wait and see...

Engagements All Around...

While Justin and I were in Asia both my sister and Phil both respectively got engaged. As I am the sister of one and one of the best friends of the other I highly suspect that I will be in both bridal parties, and I may or may not be someone's maid/matron of honor. Because of these assumed facts I feel like I should come up with some sort of series title for both of their upcoming nuptials because we all know I'm going to end up blogging about my experience being in two bridal parties only a month and a half-ish apart (They both have already expressed that they would like to get married next year and the dates they tentatively gave me are less than two months apart).

Honestly the only series titles I can think of currently are "Being K's and/or P's Bridesmaid" and I'm not sold on them. I'm sure I'll have to pick two soon because these two are moving fast with their wedding planning (Says the person who got engaged in May and married in September of the same year). But yeah, I hope you look forward to the chaos that I'm about to endure for the next year and if you have any title suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Bridesmaids Dresses | eShakti...

Even though my wedding was a little over two months ago I thought I'd post about my bridesmaids dress for several reasons.
  1. My bridesmaids dresses were cute and inexpensive.
  2. I've been out bridesmaids dress shopping for Lisa's wedding recently and the whole process is irritating, expensive, time consuming, etc.
  3. I thought it might inspire someone else to look elsewhere besides a bridal boutique.
  4. eShakti*, where the girls bought their dresses from, sent me a link for you guys to get a $25.00 gift coupon code if you sign up on the site.

So while planning my wedding, unlike my cousin Lisa currently, I was very conscious of how I was spending my money and how other people would be spending their money to celebrate my wedding. So I really didn't want to make my bridesmaids spend an arm and a leg on dresses that they were going to only wear once -- Even I refused to pay a crazy amount of money on my own wedding dress, I bought my dress off of ModCloth for $139.99.

I also understood that I asked three people with three totally different body types to stand beside me for my wedding, which is something I don't think a lot of brides think about when they are picking out dresses they want their maids to wear (ex - Not calling ahead to see if the store has plus size bridesmaids dresses and wasting your fat bridesmaid's time).

So after looking at all the typical online bridal boutiques for bridesmaids dresses and one crazy fight on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD with my sister (We got into a screaming match while on vacation over a website where you can rent bridesmaids dresses because she didn't realize that the sizes didn't go up high enough and it just wasn't going to work for everyone), I ended up on eShakti because I knew that they had an amazing range of sizes and the dresses were all moderately priced.

After a quick search through the site I saw the Havana Dress in black for $59.95 and I knew it was what I wanted the girls to wear (It also really helped that I had three bridesmaids and eShakti was running a buy two get one free special). The dresses fit into my accidental retro themed wedding, they were inexpensive, they came in all the right sizes and they were short and black, so they could be worn again. On top of that they photographed well and the girls were comfortable all day and night.

So yeah, if you're having trouble finding bridesmaids dresses or a dress in general that is moderately price I highly recommend eShakti.

If you guys do pick something up from eShakti I would love to see it! Leave me a link in the comments or let me know on Instagram @MisfitLibrarian.

* eShakti did not sponsor or send me my actual bridesmaids dresses, the girls bought them with their own money during a buy two get one free sale the site was having. I truly love the dresses they wore, as did they or else I wouldn't be writing this post. The links to eShakti are referral links which I'm only sharing because I thought $25 for signing up was pretty sweet.
