Did I Leave My Flat Iron On...

Today after being at work for not even ten minutes I had to excuse myself, hop into my car and drive over thirty minutes back to my apartment because I couldn't remember if I had unplugged my flat iron or not.

Unlike in the past when I've had this 'Oh shit!' moment I could not call someone to check (I used to be able to call my house and ask my father to check) or run home on my fifteen minute break. I legit had to waste over an hour of my vacation time to drive back and forth.

The whole thing is just mind boggling to me because I can remember the most trivial of details from years ago but I cannot remember for the life of me whether or not I turned my damn flat iron off. It's incredible that my brain can't register this one action.

I'm thinking I need to either buy a flat iron that turns itself off after X amount of time or send myself an e-mail saying "Yes you idiot, you did indeed turn your flat iron off today. Stop thinking about it and pay attention to the road!"

Do other people have this problem? Am I the only one? Lemme know...

For those of you that are curious, I did indeed waste an hour because it was unplugged.

  1. OMG I do this all the time!!! I am always thinking "did I lock the door?" Even though I check and double check the locks when I leave each day ... sigh ... I cracked up at ""Yes you idiot, you did indeed turn your flat iron off today. Stop thinking about it and pay attention to the road!" ... that is actually not a bad idea LOL!

    1. Thank God I'm not the only one!

I used to do it with the door too! I've walked out of the house, gotten into my car and been like "Did I pull the door shut?" Then I would have to drive around the block. Thankfully I don't have to worry about this anymore because I have to physically use the key at my apartment to close the door.

  2. I do it all the time too! I can't even function until I know for sure if it is turned off.

I just saw an article on this bad boy the other day. A plug you can shut off power to from an app on your iPhone! Genius!

    1. I hate not knowing if it is on or off. It kills me.

Yesterday I went to a wedding and my roommate from college slept at my apartment. So we got ready together in the morning and as we were driving to the wedding I looked at her and was like "Did you turn the curling iron off?" She said she did but my questioning of her was making her second guess herself. So apparently I make other people panic over this issue also.
