BookExpo America 2012...

Today I had the pleasure of attending BookExpo America for the third time at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. I woke up early, hoped on the LIRR, headed into the City and walked from Penn Station to the convention center.
I'm not going to bore you with the play by play details of my day because I typically spend my time at BookExpo collecting swag and information that I can take back to the library and tell the people that I think might be interesting in know about X, Y or Z. What I will tell you is I got A LOT of stuff, but it feels like less than I've gotten in previous years (I feel like the publishers are getting cheap with their freebies).

Going To BEA 2012...

It's official, I got my confirmation e-mail and I'll be attending BookExpo America on Wednesday, June 6th! I can't wait, I love going to BookExpo!

Right now I'm just going for the exhibit hall hours, but I'm thinking about going to the Children's Book & Author Breakfast (Mainly because Chris Colfer is going to be the Master of Ceremonies).

Is anyone else out there going to attend? If so, would you like to meet up and wander around the Javits Center with me? Lemme know!

BookExpo Booth Worker...

Today I got a phone call from my cousin that does public relations asking me if I wanted to work a children's book author's booth at BookExpo America. I was driving so I didn't get all of the information, she said she is going to send me an e-mail with all of the information and I have to let her know if I wanna skip out on work at the library for three days (Well two because I'm supposed to go on Thursday May 26th) or if I'll pass on the offer. I'll let you know what I decide tomorrow.

Books & Video Games...

So, on Wednesday Lenora and I went to BookExpo America. It was interesting, we got to see a lot of cool things that normal people don't care about and got information on various companies and products that the library might be interested in. We also got madd swag -- I currently have twenty-five reusable bags from various vendors as a result of attending.

Here are some pictures of my haul. [FYI -- I am in no way promoting any of these items, I just thought people might want to see what I got throughout the day.]

Here are the bags I spoke about before.

The one in the middle is my favorite of all of them. It brings of the dorky Youth Services librarian in me.

So, that was Wednesday work-wise. Wednesday night I spent hanging out with a few of my friends (Erin, Phil and Pat) by the beach.

Thursday, I worked from 1:00pm - 9:00pm. I spent the day discussing the BookExpo with my coworkers, ordering tons of books from the catalogs I got, I did a session of story time and I held a video gaming program -- I got my director to purchase almost $2,000 worth of video gaming equipment two months ago. After work I went to have coffee and pie with Erin and Phil. Pretty uneventful day.

Today starts my five day mini vacation. Tonight I'm heading into NYC for my friends Mike and Paul's housewarming party and tomorrow I'm going to Fire Island (Cherry Grove) for "Gays of Our Lives" -- Which is just an excuse for all of my gay friends to get drunk on the beach, which is cool with me seeing as my boyfriend and I are invited. So, I probably won't post again until Tuesday or Wednesday.

What You Call Insanity, I Call Inspiration...

We had to have a mini evacuation today. The power went out, thus causing our Director to fly into a tizzy. I found the whole situation to be humorous, I kept telling my coworkers that the alien-terrorist-zombies were attacking and it was all part of their master plan to take over the world -- Most of them enjoy my off beat humor, others can’t stand it or me. I at least kept my department head amused…

After our twenty minute crisis life at the library when back to being boring -- I’ve had a particularly boring week. We had a summer reading club/craft/book discussion pow wow, I did a story time, then I went to my best friend Erin’s apartment to continue our recycling mission.

What is this recycling mission you ask?!?! Well, she and I have booked a fabulous trip to Europe for the end of August, and we decided that in order to go on all of the excursions we would love to go on while we are country hopping that we need madd cash money. We both obviously won’t get extra jobs, so we decided to do the next best thing. Collect cans and bottles the night before recycling day and cash them in. It’s like getting free money for minimal effort. It has been quite lucrative for us -- we started this venture last week.

Our trip to Europe brings me to the latest book I have checked out, "No Regrets: 101 Fabulous Things to Do Before You're Too Old, Married or Pregnant" by Sarah Ivens.
Before I even knew about this book, our trip to Europe was about going to do things before we get married, buy homes and have kids, so I thought it was the perfect book to check out. I'm happy to be able to say I've had the pleasure of doing a handful of things on the list already (i.e. - #53: Stay up all night in Las Vegas) and I look forward to trying to do the rest, or at least a nice chunk of them.

Oh! Tomorrow Lenni and I are going to BookExpo America at the Javits Center in NYC. It should be awesome. I'll keep you posted.
