LASIK Consultation...

As you all know, I wear glasses but what you probably don't know is that I've been wearing glasses since the ripe old age of five. So this past Wednesday I took the day off and spent my morning having a LASIK (Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis) consultation to see if I was a candidate to have my eyes fixed.
I was very anxious going in because I was warned ahead of time that I might not be a candidate because I'm extremely myopic (Nearsighted) and have astigmatism (An irregular shaped cornea), thus I'm potentially at risk for retinal detachment in the future. And they wouldn't be able to do it if they saw anything wrong with my retina. So, I spent a good two and a half hours having a battery of tests done to see what the deal was.

After the most comprehensive eye exam of my life (Pupil dilation, prescription measurement, measuring of my corneas, etc) I was told by the doctors that despite how myopic I am and everything else wrong with my eyes that I am indeed a candidate because of the thickness of my corneas -- Thank God for thick corneas! They went over with me that I'll probably need touch up surgery in the future and that I still might have to wear a light prescription for driving at night -- All things I'm totally okay with. Then they asked me when I'd like to schedule my surgery for.

So on January 3rd, 2014 I'm having my eyes fixed and I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am. I mean, wearing glasses has been a big part of my life but I can't wait to be able to see without them. I'm very much so looking forward to this and I'm totally going to splurge on a pair of bad-ass sunglasses once everything is said and done.

Have any of you had LASIK? How was your experience? Or are any of you thinking about it?

If you're interested in learning more about LASK, you can go to www.LASIK.com because I'm obviously not an expert and can't really tell you anything aside from my own experiences throughout the process.

NOTE: This is not a sponsor post or anything but I totally would have done one if I could have gotten a better discount than I did (I'm getting a family and friends discount because my sister and Erin both work for the practice that is doing my surgery. Which is the only reason I can afford to have this done).

  1. Oh I'm excited and nervous for you! I can't wait to hear how it goes! I've heard great things about it, but the process itself -- the cutting and all that -- just makes me squeamish! At the same time, I think about it sometimes... when it's the middle of the night, and I have to get up... what if a burglar came in? What if I saw a figure in the room when I opened my eyes? I'm so doggone blind, everything is just a big scary blur. And I would be in the dark, defenseless, because I wouldn't be able to tell where his face was. Anyway, it's extreme, but that's how my crazy brain works. :)

Good luck! And thank God for modern medicine and procedures, right?

    1. Awww thank you so much!

I know! I think about stuff like that too. Also, like if zombies attack what would I do if my glasses broke, etc. LOL.

  2. Oh my god that's awesome!!! Where did you go for the consult? I'm thinking of getting mine done too. I've been wearing glasses since 1st grade and I'm so sick of it. Good luck!

    2. I just saw this comment now. I didn't realize Gmail wouldn't e-mail me when you reply. Yes please! I'm currently saving up for LASIK and I need a consult. I'm really hoping that my corneas are thick enough for them to operate on.
