Lay's Do Us A Flavor™ Finalist Taste Test/Review...

This might sound odd, but we're really into trying new potato chip flavors at my job. Whenever one of us goes somewhere and we find a flavor of potato chips we haven't seen/tried before we buy a bag and bring it back so we can all try it together. So as you can guess when Lay's came out with the finalist flavors (Cheesy Garlic Bread, Chicken & Waffles and Sriracha) from their Do Us A Flavor™ contest we had to get our hands on them. I happened to be the lucky one to find all three flavors at a Stop & Shop on the island and I obviously picked up a bunch of bags so I could try them out with the ladies at work, as well as with my family.
Since I saw my family first I did the first taste test, review or whatever you'd like to call it with them. We busted open the chips and I made everyone try the same flavor at the same time, then express their thoughts on it.

We kinda weren't thrilled by any of them. I mean, I made everyone choose their favorite out of the three but none of us were bowled over by the flavors. My mother who really wasn't happy with any of them picked Sriracha, my sister went with Chicken & Waffles, her boyfriend decided on Sriracha, Nella when given the choice of the three sniffed all of them and went with Sriracha, while I decided on Cheesy Garlic Bread.

It might sound silly, but we kinda liked them when eaten at the same time. We kinda made a "sandwich" out of them with two pieces of the Cheesy Garlic Bread with a Sriracha and Chicken & Waffles in between. The three of them combined seemed to have a better flavor than each individual chip.
Just like my family, my coworkers weren't impressed with any of the flavors when they tried them. None the less, as I did with my family, I forced them all to pick their favorite out of the bunch and they all decided on Sriracha.

Everyone in both of the tastings agreed that there was something lacking from all of the flavors or that there was something extremely artificial tasting about the chips. The Sriracha for instance wasn't spicy enough for peoples liking, while Chicken & Waffles just tasted like fake maple syrup to all of us and the Cheesy Garlic Bread tasted like a not so good mixture of Sour Cream & Cheddar chips with some garlic thrown in.

Overall, this was a fail Lay's part and I'm totally disappointed because I normally like their chips.

VOTES
Cheesy Garlic Bread = 1
Chicken & Waffles = 1
Sriracha = 8

Another Morning Meeting...

I spent my morning at another meeting, this one was about picture books. It wasn't my cup of tea because I hate listening to people analyze picture books, but I got to see "Emily" for the first time since before the storm so it was worth sucking it up.

I really enjoyed being able to talk to my Department Head, "Emily" and "Marie" even if it was about books (We also talked a little shit about "Julia" because she cut and dyed her hair to look like "Amy's" hair and she looks like crap more so than normal).

After the meeting was done I was trying to get the ladies (Minus "Julia" of course) to go out to lunch with me but they all had things to do. We all are attending another meeting on Wednesday morning so we all might go out for lunch then. I hope we do, it would be nice.

Morning Meeting...

This morning I got to attend a meeting for work. It wasn't the most riveting of meeting (It was just the monthly county children's meeting) but it was nice to do something library related and see my Department Head, whom I haven't seen since before the hurricane hit. Yay for keeping busy with work-like things!

Photo An Hour: Saturday Librarian Edition...

Here's my day hourly in photos...

9:00AM
Breakfast. Dunkin Donuts hash browns and iced coffee. Justin actually surprised me and was at the library as I was walking in and he gave me a bagel from Panera because he bought them to go his mother's house.

10:00AM
Half of my iced coffee left and no one in the room.

11:00AM
The storytime basket my Department Head put together for me to use for the storytime we are doing for a local church. The church lady picked out the theme socks, I'm just going with it.

12:00PM
My mother threw away some food I made the other day that I was going to eat for lunch today, so she took me out for pizza and to walk around town before I had to head back to the library.

1:00PM
A blog post I was working on that will be up way before this will be today.

2:00PM
Sorting through the letter that I had on one of our bulletin boards to put them away.

3:00PM
I started to get a headache. I think it's because it's going to rain.

4:00PM
Just walking around the department.

5:00PM
Time to punch out!

The Sick Day Theory...

So I have this theory, whenever I call in sick at some point within the same week "Julia" will also call in sick. My Department Head refuses to believe this, even though it happens every time, and the other ladies in my department quickly jumped on the bandwagon.

"Julia" has proven this theory right once again this week. On Monday I called in sick and surprise surprise, she calls in sick today. This cannot be some reoccurring coincident! I swear this woman has some sort of issue! I just can't figure out what it is. Thoughts?

Since When Do The Freaks Come Out During The Day...

There isn't going to be a full moon until next Wednesday but it sure feels like there is gonna be one tonight. I've dealt with so much weird crap today it isn't funny. I wasn't even in for five minutes this morning when a mother rolled in with her five kids, one of them being a toddler who was wearing nothing but a t-shirt and a diaper. I flipped when I saw this little boy running around the department with no pants on. I immediately ran to a phone to call my Director to see if I had the right to say anything to this mother. Unfortunately he was dealing with a crazy patron who claimed she paid a fine for a book she lost from another library that we actually paid for. Because he was dealing with her I never got an answer from him (Apparently he had been dealing with her since 9:30am, I came into work at 11:00am), so I ended up have a pow wow with "Amy" and "Julia" to try to figure out what to do. We decided that we needed to ask her to leave so "Amy" walked into the picture book room and told her that her child needed to be wearing pants. The woman didn't even look at her. She came back into the office to tell us what happened and then she walked right back into the room and repeated herself. Again the woman didn't answer, but five minutes later she called the rest of her children over and told them they were leaving and they left. She came back fifteen minutes later with her kids and this time they were all wearing pants.

A couple of hours later we had a patron hand "Lori" a picture book and she told her that the book had booklice. I didn't see the book or bugs on it but "Lori" did say there was a little bug on it. I called my Director when she and "Emily" asked me what they should do with the book and he told me to withdraw and chuck it.

Maybe an hour later we had a man bathing himself in our mens room. According to a patron some dude was just in there without a shirt on just giving himself a good rub down. Thankfully it was around the time that our Security Guard was in because he dealt with that one.

"Emily" got crazy attitude from a babysitter after she told her the name of an author and told her to look under the letter of the authors last name. The babysitter peaked in the stacks, told "Emily" she didn't know where to look because she wasn't a librarian. This just caused "Emily" to go on a rant about her knowing that the girl learned in school how to look up books. It wasn't good.

Then everyone was spilling drinks all over the place. We don't even allow food and drinks in our department because the carpet is still relatively new, so these people were super wrong.

In addition to all of the stuff above, I just had a lot of patrons with problems today. They weren't necessarily library problems but I had to play therapist to several mommies throughout the course of the day.

On top of everything else "Marie" called in sick claiming that her daughter wasn't feeling well when she got back from camp. We all knew she called in sick because she lives about forty minutes away and there is supposed to be a crazy storm tonight. She didn't want to drive home in the storm. So now I was supposed to get off at 7:00pm and I am working an extra two hours to cover the reference desk while "Amy" does all of her Thursday night programs.

NOTE: Our Department Head is on vacation this week, so everyone in my Department is coming to me with questions.

Fifty Shades Of What?...

While I was at work earlier my Department Head was going through her mailbox and there was an order form for a book with a title that included the words "shades" and "gray/grey" and she starts getting loud demanding to know who put an order for the novel in her mailbox. "Julia" stutters that she put it in. My Department Head starts going off about why would she put an order in for an erotic novel and that it wasn't appropriate for the Youth Services Department, etc. "Julia" stutters some more and tries to explain that it was a novel about a girl with barbed wire on the cover. My Department Head continues being loud and saying that it was one of the books in the Fifty Shade of Grey trilogy, that is when I butted in. I explained to her that it wasn't actually a title in the trilogy.

While this is going on "Julia" is still trying to figure out what she did wrong. My Department Head is yelling about Fifty Shade of Grey and "Julia" looks at us and says that she has no idea what that is. I honestly could not help myself, I looked at her like she was an idiot and said "What planet do you live on?!?!!! How do you not know what Fifty Shade of Grey is?!!???!!" She continued to say she didn't know what it was.

Really?!! Where has this woman been the past two months?!?!! The Fifty Shade of Grey trilogy has been discuss on every form of media possible, libraries have banned the books, there are thousands of holds on the books in the libraries that have them, all of them have been on best seller lists, etc.

I could not believe what she admitted. What kind of librarian are you if you have no clue about a series that has taken the publishing industry by storm?! Honestly, I have not read any of the books and I refuse to do so but I know about them! I have friends that have read them and I've talked about the series with them, so on and so forth.

Someone needs to take this woman out back... I swear she is useless.

"Julia" Fail...

Today was one of those days at work where I didn't have a crazy amount of work to do but I didn't feel like doing what I had to do mainly because it involved helping "Julia" with a project that she totally screwed up.

So, "Julia" is in charge of a poetry magazine ever year and somehow for however long she had been doing this particular project she has gotten away with pawning it off on a volunteer. I have honestly never actually seen her put very much effort into the project aside from bossing her volunteer around. This year for some odd reason (Because she suck, is my guess) the girl who volunteered to put the whole things together quit, leaving "Julia" to put the magazine together by herself.

For days now my coworkers and I have been watching her struggle with this project (None of us wanna help her). Finally today my Department Head gave in and started to help her, only to find out that she totally screwed the whole thing up and that it would be easier to start from scratch than to even touch any of the work that "Julia" put into this thing.

Now that my Department Head is working on this thing she expects me to help, which I still really don't want to do because I really want no part in anything that "Julia" does. But I've been sucked into helping out much to my chagrin. So I spent what should have been a peaceful day getting frustrated over the crap that "Julia" produced (I reformatting the document, proof reading, retyping poems, etc).

Honestly, it is bull that I have to fix something that this woman is going to take credit for without batting an eyelash. My Department Head should just let her suffer and fail but she won't do it because of the children that participated, as well as how it would make our department look. Ugh! "Julia" is just so infuriating.

Music A To Z: H Is For...

H is for... Hate On Me by Jill Scott and Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!) by Blu Cantrell

Hate On Me is my ringtone for when "Julia" calls my cellphone. My Department Head told me I was a jerk when she found out. Others thought it was amazing. Hey, I could have made it Fuck You* by Lilly Allen...

Hate On Me by Jill Scott on Grooveshark

Hate On Me

If I could give you the world
On a silver platter
Would even matter
You'd still be mad at me
If I can find in all this
A dozen roses
Which I would give to you
You'd still be miserable
In reality
I'm gon be who I be
And I don't feel no faults
For all the lies that you bought
You can try as you may
Break me down when I say

That it ain't up to you
Gon on do what you do

[Chorus:]
Hate on me hater
Now or Later
Cause I'm gonna do me
You'll be made baby

(Go head and hate)
Go head and hate on me hater
I'm not afraid of
What I got I paid for
You can hate on me...

Ooh if I gave you peaches
Out of my on garden
And I made you a peach cobbler
Would you slap me out?
Wonder if I gave you diamonds
Out of my on womb
Would you feel the love in that
Or ask why not the moon
If I gave you sanity
For the whole of humanity
Had all the solutions for the pain and pollution
No Matter Where I live
Despite the things I give
You'll always be this way
So go ahead and ...

[Chorus x2]

You Cannot...
Hate On me
Cause my mind is free
Feel my destiny
So Shall it Be
[Repeat x2]
[Chorus]
 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

This is mine and Erin's song. If we're in the car together this song comes on at some point at least once and it is played full volume and sang loud and proud.

Hit Em Up Style by Blu Cantrell on Grooveshark

 Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)

While he was scheming
I was beamin' in the Beamer just beamin'
Can't believe that I caught my man cheatin'
So I found another way to make him pay for it all

So I went
To Neiman-Marcus on a shopping spree
And on the way I grabbed Soley and Mia
And as the cash box rang I thought everything away

(Oops)
There goes the dreams we used to say
(Oops)
There goes the time we spent away
(Oops)
There goes the love I had but you cheated on me
And that's worth that now

(Oops)
There goes the house we made a home
(Oops)
There goes you'll never leave me alone
For all the lies you told, this is what you owe

Hey ladies
When your man wanna get buckwild
Just go back and hit 'em up style
Put your hands on his cash
And spend it to the last dime
For all the hard times

Oh, when you go then everything goes
From the crib to the ride and the clothes
So you better let him know that
If he messed up you gotta hit 'em up

While he was braggin'
I was coming down the hill and just draggin'
All his pictures and his clothes in the bag and
Sold everything else till there was just nothin' left

And I paid
All the bills about a month too late
It's a shame we have to play these games
The love we had just fades away, away

I Hate Julia...

I swear "Julia" is the biggest asshole I have ever met. She comes in at 9:30am today (Which she was scheduled to do) but as soon as she got in she had to make a ten minute personal call. While she is doing God knows what I was situating myself on one of the reference computers (I had my e-mail open, blogs I read up, etc.) when a patron came over. I went into the stacks to help the patron out and when I come back "Julia" is all comfy at my computer and she didn't even think twice about the fact that I was there first. The minute I saw her I was like "Excuse me, I had my e-mail open and I was working on stuff..." she just looked at me and said "Oh, I saw your e-mail open, I opened a new window. Do you wanna close your stuff out?" I wanted to scream at her. I was there first!!! I closed my stuff out and stormed into the office. Two minutes later I walked out and said that I needed to finish the work I was doing and print out a few items to order. She stuttered and asked it I needed the computer she was on. I practically yelled at her and said yes because that was computer I had all of the patrons information on. She kept her ass in the chair and slid over. I was so mad. She pissed me off to the point were I started to have a TMJD flare up and I was getting a headache.

After a few more stupid thing flew out of her mouth I had it. I stormed up to the administrative office to see if our Director was in. He wasn't, so I told the Payroll Lady that I needed leave because if I didn't I might punch "Julia" is her ugly face. She spent a good twenty minutes talking me down and convinced me not to leave, but I was still slightly annoyed.

Apparently while I was gone she was giving patrons incorrect information and she pissed both "Marie" and "Amy" off. At least I wasn't the only one, I guess.

What I Taught My DH This Week...

Not that I've ever played in my life (I know about it because my mom grew up in Brooklyn), but I taught my Department Head about the game Skully today.

Here is all you could want to know about the game via Wikipedia...

Skully: A children's game played on the streets of New York City and other urban areas.

Sketched on the street usually in chalk, a skully board allows a game for 2 to 6 players. A sidewalk is sometimes used, offering greater protection from vehicular traffic; however, the asphalt on a typical city street is smoother and provides better game play than a bumpy cement sidewalk.

Game Play
Players use caps--usually bottle caps, or similar items like checkers, or chair glides--to play. Many players use clay or wax to weigh down their caps for easier gliding. Caps were typically plastic milk bottle caps with clay in the middle of the cap, other times candle wax is melted into them. Some players took extreme pride in their designs, thinking theirs looked or played better than other players. On hands and knees at the starting line, the first player flicks a cap poised between thumb and middle finger, and attempts to land it in the box labeled "1". If successful (the cap cannot touch a line), the player continues by flicking for the next number - and so on, in the sequence: "2", "3", "4" etc., up to "12". If any flick is unsuccessful, the player's turn is forfeit in favor of the next agreed player. When all players have had their turn, the first player resumes by flicking for the square previously missed.

Flicking a piece into a square without touching a line allows the player to immediately take another turn. In addition, if a player strikes another player's cap, he is immediately rewarded with the next box he is going for, allowing him to pick up his cap, walk over to that number, and immediately take an additional turn from there.

A complication in the game involves the space surrounding the square box "13". If, in flicking for any square (including "13"), a player accidentally lands on the area surrounding "13" (the skull), the player remains stuck there until freed by another player's shot. In one variation of the rules, such good behavior is motivated by assigning each area a number of bonus squares which advance the player who frees a stuck player. In other variations, the freeing player gets a number of bonus turns equal to the last number in the number the stuck player had reached before getting stuck.

After the player completes the circuit from "1" to "12" and successfully flicks into the square labeled "13", a circuit of the four trapezoids surrounding the "13" square must be made. The circuit of these must be performed in succession in a single turn, with the player saying "I" in the first, "Am" in the second, "A" in the third, and finally "killer" in the fourth. If all trapezoids are not negotiated in succession in a single turn, the turn is forfeit and the process must start again on the player's next turn by first flicking for the "13" square. If the trapezoids are successfully negotiated, the player is deemed to be a killer.

In another variation of the game, players must complete the circuit of numbers from "1" to "13", then backwards back to "1", before making the attempt to become a killer. This version consequently takes more time to play.

End Of Game Sequence
Once a player becomes a killer, further flicks of the bottle cap can be used to knock another competitor's bottle cap outside the six-foot square. If successful in this, the player knocked outside the square is "killed," i.e., removed from the game. In other common variations of the game, the killer needs to strike a non-killer's cap three times in succession in order to "kill" that player, or another killer's cap only once. In some variations, a non-killer can become a killer by striking the killer's cap (hit-a-killer); additionally, a killer's turn may either end or continue when he "kills" another player, based upon local convention. Also, some variations allow the killer to "walk the lines", the killer will pick up their cap and walk or jump along the lines of the board to get close to another player's cap and shoot from the closest point on the line. Some variations require the new killer to "get out of "town" (the skelly board) to the "killer line" drawn some distance away from the main skelly board. At that point, the killer flicks his top back to the skelly board at which point the killer rules are negotiated by yelling them out, the player saying them first wins: For instance "No hit a killer-be a killer", "three baby taps" or "three blasts", "all boxes are mine", etc which will govern how powerful the killer will be. Some aggressive players would typically "kill" other player's caps by not just flicking but kicking their own cap into opposing players cap's, called booting, and sending it way out of the board, sometimes damaging or losing the cap, adding further insult to the loss.

The last player on the field wins.

Lessons In Cell Phone Use...

Today my Department Head joined the 21st century, she bought an iPhone 4 and I spent my the afternoon teaching her how to use it -- I was so excited to do it!

I went with her during our lunch hour to a local AT&T® store so she could finally get rid of her eight year old crappy cell phone and get a shiny new iPhone -- She originally was gonna get an iPhone 4S but they didn't have an 8GB in store, so she went with the 4. We spent about 45 minutes in the store while they got her phone ready and tried to sell her random crap that I wouldn't let her buy and then we headed back to the library where I got it hooked up to iTunes, etc. By the end of the day she seemed to be okay with it, but we'll see if she ends up calling me tomorrow or just showing up at the library while I'm working to fix it.

Oh My God, Shoes...

Yesterday I was extremely bored at work so I decided to take a pair of shoes that my Department Head gave me and cover them in glitter. I did this half because I like playing with glitter and wanted a pair of glitter shoes and half because I thought it would make a neat teen craft at some point.

Here are some other glitter shoe tutorials from some of my favorite bloggers...

Sushi Date...

Miss Erin came to visit me at work today (When isn't she visiting me at work...) because we had a sushi lunch date planned for this brisk afternoon. She got to the library a little before 1:00pm and waited around until someone actually arrive at work because I had been alone all morning because "Julia" called out sick.

The minute my Department Head arrived I ran away for my glorious glorious sushi date -- We haven't had sushi in a while so it was a super happy thing for both of us seeing that we can each devour crazy amounts of sushi. We each ordered and ate too much sushi in my hour lunch break and then we headed back to the library so she could download stuff to her evil evil eReader. While she was doing so she ended up teaching my Department Head about the game Angry Birds and had her playing it at her desk. It was kinda funny.
Eventually she left and now I am again alone at the Reference Desk because my Department Head ran away on her own dinner break. I cannot wait for 5:00pm.

A Rash Or A Hangover?...

Apparently one of my coworkers had the nerve to say to my Department Head when I called in sick last Friday (because I had a horrible rash covering my face and neck) that I was probably calling in because I had a hangover from the holiday party I went to the night before. Unfortunately my Department Head won't tell me who said it (She did tell me that she did put said person in their place because I texted her a picture of my neck) but I'm assuming it was "Julia" because it sounds like something that would come out of her mouth. I was so mad when she told me because I've come to work hungover before and I would never call in because of that. I had a terrible rash covering face and neck almost all day, I looked like Freddy Krueger. The amount of medication I took and put on my face was ridiculous, and when I came into work I made a point of telling everyone about it and saying that the person who implied that I called in sick because I had drank too much the night before was a jerk.

What is this woman's problem? Hasn't she ever heard the saying "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones..." because she has called in for some stupid crap over the years. My favorite being that she has her period and her cramps a so bad she can't come to work. Really?! You're gonna use that excuse in a female dominated field? She is such an idiot.

365 Days Of Pictures: Day 281...

This is the note that I left on the books for my Department Head that everyone is being a pain about. I don't think it was a horrible note. I could have written way more terrible things.

December 7, 2011

Crap...

I cannot catch a break. Today I go to work and find out that one of the Clerks (One of the only ones I previously wasn't annoyed with) complained that I used the word "crap" in a note I left on a book for my Department Head. The note in question was a note that was meant for my Department Head's eyes only, she didn't take it off the book when she went to point out to the Circulation Clerks that they aren't doing their jobs properly. The note said something along the line of "Please deal talk with the Circulation staff because they aren't doing their jobs properly and I don't know why I have to deal with this crap. This is Circulation work..."

The fact that this gossipy Clerk had the nerve to complain pisses me off. "Crap" is better than the other expletives that I wanted to use to describe those lazy pieces of shit who work our Circulation desk -- Sorry for cursing, I'm just so annoyed. And the person who complained was über friendly with me last month when she was asking me about internships at Justin's job and having him help her son. I put an end to that, my boyfriend will not be helping her son and I could careless if it costs her son anything.

My Department Head warned the Head Clerk that if her Clerks wanna play games like this with me that I'll take them down because I am super observant and I know everything that everyone does wrong. Plus she said that if they made a formal complaint that she'd have to side with me because 90% of my actions have been justified.

This was the last straw. I'm done with all of the Clerks except Head Clerk, whom I am friends with. None of them better utter a word to me from now on.

Beginning Of A Bucket List...

Honestly I didn't really do much today at work. I did whatever random tasks my Department Head asked me to do yesterday and then I was pretty much free for the rest of the day because it was super slow. So, I ended up working on a handwritten bucket list thanks to Lenni and her bucket list that my Department Head and I were looking at yesterday. Yeah, I know what you're thinking... You're thinking that I already have my "No Regrets" list do 26th things by my 27th birthday blah blah blah, but this one is kinda different. This list consists of things that I know are gonna take me more than a year to do and that I'd like to do before I kick it one day. I'm not going to type everything out that I wrote, I will give you a sampling of what is on it though. Plus you all know that if I just so happen to get something on the list done that I'll be posting about it anyways.

A Sampling Of My Ultimate Bucket List
  • Own a coffee shop This is actually mine and Phil's dream
  • Witness the running of the bulls
  • Ride a camel
  • Visit the wreckage of the Titanic aboard a submarine
  • Attend a Native American sweat lodge ceremony
  • Find my doppelganger

"No Regrets" List Book Search...

I was thinking about how I haven't really had a chance to get a lot of things on my current "No Regrets" list done, so I went searching online for lists of great works of literature in hopes that I could get number twenty-two (#22 Indulge in a Great Work of Literature) out of the way.

I found the following list here and asked my Department Heads which out of the books that I haven't read should I read. If you have any suggestions for me based on the list below or your own preference leave a comment -- The one I currently have in my possession is The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
