Adieu, Adieu, To Yieu & Yieu & Yieu...
Today was full of goodbyes at the library. "Favorite Page #1" came in to see myself and my Department Head before she headed back to college for the rest of her semester and today was the last day I got to work with our current Assistant Director before she leaves for her new job. So my day consisted of hugs and long faces. I'm going to miss them both.

Library Bitch...
I got roped into doing a lot of random things today. First I was suckered into coming into the library at 11:00am (I was scheduled to work 1:00pm-9:00pm) to pay the caterer for our Assistant Director's going away party, as well as set up the food in our staff room. I also had to make sure everyone that paid got food and that people didn't just wander upstairs to nosh on food they didn't pay for. I also had to clean up and listen to one of the full time Clerks bitch that "Julia" ate six sandwiches -- "Julia" is constantly on a diet plan (She is currently on Weight Watchers®) yet she is always over eating, so I wasn't surprised she did what she did.
I had to sort through, label, deliver and collect the money for the Girl Scout Cookies® my coworkers bought from Justin's sisters. There were five boxes of cookies that I had to move from my car into the library. It was annoying.
In addition to all of that I was somehow stuck teaching a den of Cub Scouts about our local history -- I was only told about this today, so even though I've lived in the area my whole life I had to do a lot of reading up on our history. It was a pain, I had twelve little boys who honestly didn't care about anything I had to say running around and pushing each other around for forty-five minutes. What was worst was that neither their parents nor their leader did anything to help me.
It was a very long day.

Different Direction...
I just realized that I forgot to post that the Assistant Director at my library is leaving. She got a job as a director else where, so she'll only be around for a few more weeks. I'm happy for her, but I'm not happy that I'll have to break in a new assistant director. I shall keep you updated on the new assistant director search and such.

Circulation Storytime...
For some reason we had a class visit during an odd time today (we typically have them while we're closed in the morning so that the class has the library to themselves and that other patrons aren't around) and thankfully "Julia" was in charge of it -- I hate being in charge of class visits. Seeing as the sound of "Julia's" voice makes me clench my jaw I decided that I'd go down to Adult Reference and intern for an hour. While I was downstairs "Julia" brought the children down to the circulation desk to check out the books that they picked out while they were in the Youth Services Department. After all of the children finish a weird thing happened, "Julia" started reading them a picture book in front of the Circulation Desk.
Why the hell would you have children sit down in the middle of a high foot traffic area and read them a story?! Don't you realize that you aren't in the Youth Services Department and that there are employees and patrons working on various things that don't want to listen to your annoying ass voice reading to a bunch of elementary school aged children?! I don't know what the hell is wrong with that woman. She actually brought it up to me later and said how cute it was. I wanted to tell her it wasn't and that she actually pissed off several Adult Reference Librarians to the point where they brought it up to the Assistant Director. She is such a pain.

Attack Of The VHS Tapes...
I got a new assignment as per the Assistant Director to do during my internship. I am currently weeding and withdrawing all of the nonfiction VHS tapes that can still be found in the library and I am replacing them with DVDs (This is what I did for four hours last night).
As you can guess I've come across some gems and I've made a point of taking pictures of them so that I may show the World how badly our nonfiction audiovisual collection needed to be weeded.
The cart in the photo contained 342 VHS tapes and that isn't even half of the VHS tapes that I pulled off of the shelves. There will be more VHS updates.

That's Not My Job...
I dealt with the biggest douche bag ever today. I was standing at the Youth Services Department's Reference Desk when this short smelly homeless looking man walks up and puts a stack of VHS tapes on the desk. I look at him an politely tell him that he needs to check them out downstairs at the Circulation Desk. He gives me the nastiest glare and says "You have a computer. Why can't you check them out?!" I looked at him and said "I'm sorry, I can't check them out. It isn't my job. You'll have to go downstairs to the ladies at circulation." This pissed him off. "Why can't you check my items out?! You have a computer!!" I look him and repeated that it isn't my job to check out items and that he'd have to go downstairs. He continues to give me bitch face and says "If I called the Director I wonder what he'd say about it!" This is when I got pissed and I started to get loud with him. I said to him "If you called the Director he'd tell you IT ISN'T MY JOB!" Then the dude started mumbling crap and says he is going to report me to the Board of Trustees. I told him to go ahead and report me to the board because they'd agree that it isn't my job and that they wouldn't do anything to me about it because I'm the most well liked person in the Youth Services Department. Then I told him to get out of the department.
After all of this happened I warned the Adult Librarians about him and I called the Circulation Desk to tell the ladies down there. I found out when I was talking to the ladies at circulation that the dude isn't even our patron and that he causes problems downstairs. I need to tell my Director, Assistant Director and Department Head when I see them on Monday.
