Spreading The Word About City Year & AmeriCorps...

I was asked to share information with all of you about City Year and because it's such an amazing program and they do wonderful things, I am more than happy to help spread the word.

According to a recent study by Pew Center, although new data shows significant progress of graduation completion rates among Hispanic youth, students from that demo continue to have the highest drop out rate among all major racial and ethnic groups.

City Year exists to help solve that problem by putting AmeriCorps members in the classrooms of high-poverty communities to bridge the gap between the support that students actually need and what their schools are designed and able to provide. These corps members look like the students, come from very similar backgrounds, and provide 1:1 support by lending an ear and helping students not only academically, but also showing them a very tangible peak into what's really possible.

To make this a reality, City Year recruits the nation's best and brightest to join it's AmeriCorps and their many benefits include compensation through a stipend for 11 months that help meet living expenses, you will also be provided health insurance, uniforms and a modest stipend. Upon conclusion of your service, you will also receive a $5,730 Segal Education Award. In addition, City Year's comprehensive leadership development model empowers corps members to thrive as skilled and effective leaders. These valuable skills will help prosper the Corps members in any career field they wish to enter after City Year.

Other benefits available to the members of AmeriCorps include gaining general knowledge on health related issues and the impact that access to high quality health care has on high-poverty communities, as well as other knowledge and skills spanning education, business, and even law.

You have until April 30th to take advantage of this unique opportunity to join City Year and we put it all within your reach - just click here. Take advantage of the program with the potential to change your professional future and motivate and inspire in others the will to succeed!
So if you know anyone that would love helping out under privileged youth, spread the word. This is a great cause.

Sunday Steal...

1. If Money Were No Object, What Would You Be Doing With Your Life?
Honestly I'd still be working at the library because I think I'd get bored without dealing with the dingdongs that I work with but I'd travel way more than I already do and do so with an amazing handbag collection.

2. Money Is Just That - An Object,  So Why Aren’t You Doing It?
I do travel more than the average person but I can't do more of it because I owe my soul to Sallie Mae or whatever company is dealing with student loans at the moment for my undergrad and post-grad work.

3. What’s Better: Horses Or Cows?
Cows because cheese comes from milk that comes from cows.

4. What Do You Think The Secret To Happiness Is?
Being true to yourself.

5. When Was The Last Time You Had A Dream That You Either Remember Well Or Did Not Want To Awake From? Can You Share A Bit?
I don't remember my dreams or I'd totally share.

6. When You Were A Little Kid, What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up?
Singer.

7. Complete This Statement: Love Is…
Not perfect and messy.

8. Can You Tell A Good Story?
I think I can...

9. Can you remember your last daydream? What was it about?
Probably screaming at     Fill In The Blank     .

10. If You Were To Thank Someone Today, Who Would You Thank?
My dad because he does everything for our family.

11. If You Could Be Anyone's Mojo, Whose Would You Want To Be & Why?
Oh I don't need to be anyone's mojo because I have enough of my own and I think I'm awesome.

No Longer A Kickstarter Virgin | La Vero Beauty Parlour...

I would like to announce that I am no longer a Kickstarter virgin (I mean, I've urged Justin to back things like The Exploding Kittens and Quiplash Kickstarters -- The first one is a card game by the dude that runs The Oatmeal and the second is a video game by the creators of You Don't Know Jack) and I just backed my first project, which was for La Vero Beauty Parlour's latest collection of headbands -- Yes, I backed a Kickstarter for headbands and I'm not ashamed because I still totally love a good headband thanks to one Miss. Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl (2007-2012).

I first saw the Kickstarter on The Clothes Horse, which is an awesome fashion blog I've been following for years, and I knew I just needed one of La Vero's headbands in my life. I mean c'mon, look at the collections they put out with the Kickstarter...

Girls Who Wear Glasses

I think these are just like the cutest headbands ever. And I totally want the baby mint #follow headband as my reward for backing the project (I don't think it'll look good with my purple hair, but I already know what color I'm going with next -- No not telling, it's a secret -- and I think it'll look good). For those of you interested I backed the minimum amount of $22, which is really $25 because they charged shipping which sucked but whatever.

So if you love headbands like I do, La Vero is still taking backers for the next couple of days and the project has been fully funded so there will actually be a product to get. Lemme know if you do. Also, have you ever backed a Kickstarter before? If so, did it end up getting fully funded? Did you get your reward yet? If you haven't, would you? I'm totally interested.

National Sibling Day | A Little Bit About My Sister...

Today is National Sibling Day and in honor here are some pictures of my sister and I throughout the years, as well as a little bit about my sister...
For those of you that don't know my sister's name is Kristina, but we call her Kris. She is two years younger than I am and she is the biggest little (She is only 4' 11 ½") pain in the ass but she is my pain in the ass. We tend to argue if we are around each other too long but that's because we're Cuban and that's totally normal. But no matter how much we argue we've always got each others backs and I know that I can always count on her. I don't tell her it very often but I love her very much and am proud to be her sister.

So for all of you out there with siblings, happy National Sibling Day!

10 Movies I Can Watch Over & Over Again...

While at my parents' house the other day I got to thinking about movies that aren't necessarily my favorite movies but ones that I can watch over and over again. Why did I start thinking about this you ask? Well, because almost every time I am at my parents' house The Mummy (1999) is playing in the background. So I thought that for fun that I'd throw together a list of movies, in no particular order, that I have no problem watching over and over again...

1. The Labyrinth (1986)

2. A League of Their Own (1992)

3. Forrest Gump (1994)

4. Clueless (1995)
5. The Princess Diaries (2001)

6. Jaws (1975)

7. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

8. The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002)

9. Empire Records (1995) -- Fun Fact: Yesterday was Rex Manning Day.

10. Half Baked (1998)

I don't know exactly what it is about each of these movies, especially since basically none of them have really anything to do with one another but I could sit and watch them over and over again. They each just hold a special place in my weird little brain.

What movies could you watch over and over again? Or do you not have time to rewatch a movie more than once? Lemme know!

Honorable Mentions
  • The Crow (1994)
  • Interview with the Vampire (1994)
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
  • Practical Magic (1998)
  • The Shinning (1980)
  • The Craft (1996)
  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
My Actual Favorite Movies
  • The Godfather (1972)
  • Halloween (1978)
  • The Goonies (1985)
  • Eurotrip (2004)
  • Clue (1985)

For The Game Of Thrones Fans | Game Of Chairs...

Game of Thrones (2011-Present) is starting up Sunday and to get you all in the mood (Not that I actually think you need to get into the mood if you are a fan of the show already but...) here is an amazing parody video that Sesame Street did called Game of Chairs. Enjoy!

Dreaming Of Beach Weather | Plus Size Bathing Suit Wishlist...

I'm not sure how you guys feel but I desperately need summer to get here. And because I'm so desperate for a beach day I've been staring at bathing suits all day longing to get my tan on. And since I don't want to put my hours of staring at bathing suits to waste, I thought that I'd throw together a little plus size bathing suit wishlist.

Stuck In My Head: Love Is Blind...

I've had Eve's "Love Is Blind" stuck in my head all weekend thanks to Day & Toni's brother Michael. He started singing it on Saturday night while we were talking about one of our friend's relationship problems and it's just been in my head constantly since.

Photo-A-Day | Week Fifteen | April 2015...

At the end of last year I told myself that I was going to make it through at least a month of Fat Mum Slim's photo a day lists and since I haven't been able to keep that promise to myself I figured maybe I'd try doing all of the prompts for this week.

Here are the rules as always...
  1. Using the list as inspiration, take a photo each day.
  2. Share it on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. You can also share on your blog or on Facebook by joining her group.
  3. Check out other people's photos and like them or comment on them.
I'm gonna do it!
