Music A To Z: Z Is For...

Z is for... Zee Deveel by Incubus.

This is honestly the only song that I really like that starts with the letter Z. No other explanation...

Yeah you got your little world

Fire...

I am currently sitting at the reference desk trying not to look at the flashing fire alarm lights because we just dealt with a building evacuation due to the fire alarm mysteriously going off.

The alarms started going off while I was sitting at the desk helping a patron find various Leo Dillion since he died recently. As soon as the alarm starts blaring I walk over to the computer room, which was full of teens and they all just looked at me. I stared back at them for a minute and I just said "Get up! Do you want to die in a fire?! ...Don't run!" So they all get out, "Lori" and I checked to make sure that no one else was in the room, grab our stuff and go outside.

We were outside for a good twenty minutes before the staff was allowed back in the building. We dealt with various things for another fifteen minutes before we allowed the public back in, but the lights of the alarms were still going strong for a good twenty minutes after that.

It's always fun when the fire alarm going off. It actually saved me from having to do one of "Amy's" programs because I'm working her night for her.

Send Something Good Boxes...

It has come to my attention that I never posted the pictures of the Send Something Good box I sent out (I've been super busy and tired, so I very much so apologize).

Here are the things that I sent out to Lisa of Leesy Lesse Liss...
It was kinda hard for me to pick out things for her because of the format of her Tumblr (I'm not used to Tumblrs, I don't honestly look at many), so a lot of the things I picked out for her were things from a bucket list she had posted. That is why there are little notes on the items I sent out, they reference the number of the thing on her bucket list she needs the item to complete. In addition to things from her list, I sent her some of my favorite things (i.e. -- Cookie Butter, etc.) and little toys because I have a bunch of them all over my desk.

Here are the wonderful things that Alisha sent again (I posted about them in You've Got Mail...) and again I would like to thank her for being so awesome! XOXO

Seven Questions...

My friend Ben & I beating the crap out of each other with socks filled
with baby powder in the hallways of our dorm in 2006 or 2007.

1. If you were to start your own business, what would it be?
My dream is to one day open a Coffee/Tea hangout spot with Phil. We've been talking about doing it for years and I can't wait until we actually do it. We have the name picked out, I've drawn out logos, etc.

I'd also like to open a trendy plus sized shop somewhere on Long Island. When you're 20-something and plus sized it's flippin' hard to find cute clothing. I work really hard to try and find the cutest things I can.

2. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, do you embrace your grumpiness or try to fight it?
I'm Cuban, I totally embrace my grumpiness and let my grumpy flag fly.

3. What's the very first memory you have?
I'm not good at stuff like this, you'd think I would be because I can remember tons of stuff but for some reason I don't remember much from my early childhood. Which is weird because I had a good one.

4. The world is ending, what do you do? Allow yourself to die? Fight? Hide? Etc.
It depends on how crap goes down, but I'm 99.9% sure I'd fight no matter what. I'm a survivor, I come from a survivor. My dad was a Pedro Pan kid, he was sent from Cuba at the age of 10 to Miami because of  rumors that the Cuban government would begin taking children against the wishes of their parents to military schools and to Soviet labour camps. He was sent to an orphanage in Michigan (While my Tia got to stay with a family friend who refused to take my father, even though they told my grandmother they would) and lived there for nine months until my grandmother came to the US from Cuba. And in those nine months he changed and in growing up learned how to be a survivor and do what you have to do.

In addition to my father being a Pedro Pan kid, he took part in the Mariel Boatlift. My Tio fought in the Bay of Pig and my grandmother was a nurse taking bullets out of Cubans revolting agains Castro. Survivor family!

5. What is your favorite meal of the day?
Dinner.

6. How do you best learn? Visual? Listening? Hands on?
I'm a listener. I need to be in a classroom and listen to the information I need to know. I retain information well, at least I think I do.

7. What is your favorite joke?
I don't really tell jokes. My mother tells some pretty dirty one and Justin tries to tell dirty jokes. And right now I'm blanking on a good one.

Michael Jackson by You Rock My World on Grooveshark

You Rock My World

Ho...oh...

My life will never be the same
'Cause girl, you came and changed
The way I walk
The way I talk

I cannot explain the things I feel for you
But girl, you know it's true
Stay with me, fulfill my dreams
And I'll be all you'll need

Oh, oh, oh, oh, ooh, it feels so right (Girl)
I've searched for the perfect love all my life (All my
life)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, ooh, it feels like I (Like I)
Have finally found her perfect love is mine (See, I
finally found, come on, girl)

You rocked my world, you know you did
And everything I own I give (You rocked my world)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine (You rocked my world)

You rocked my world, you know you did (Girl)
And everything I own I give (I want you, girl)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine

In time I knew that love would bring
This happiness to me
I tried to keep my sanity
I waited patiently

Girl, you know it seems
My life is so complete
A love that's true because of you
Keep doing what you do

Oh, oh, oh, oh, who'd think that I (Oh)
Have finally found the perfect love I searched for all
my life (Searched for all my life)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, who'd think I'd find
(Whoa...oh...oh...)
Such a perfect love that's so right (Whoa, girl)

You rocked my world, you know you did (Come on, come
on, come on, come on)
And everything I own I give
The rarest love who'd think I'd find (Girl)
Someone like you to call mine (You rocked my world)

You rocked my world (You rocked my world), you know
you did
And everything I own I give (Girl, girl, girl)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine (Girl)

You rocked my world, you know you did (Oh)
And everything I own I give (You rocked my world)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine

You rocked my world (Oh...), you know you did
And everything I own I give (To rock my world)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine

Girl, I know that this is love
I felt the magic all in the air
And girl, I'll never get enough
That's why I always have to have you here, hoo

You rocked my world (You rocked my world), you know
you did
And everything I own I give (Look what you did to
me, baby, yeah)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine (You rocked my world)

You rocked my world, you know you did (Know you did,
baby)
And everything I own I give ('Cause you rocked my
world)
The rarest love who'd think I'd find (Hoo, hoo)
Someone like you to call mine

(You rocked my world)
You rocked my world, you know you did
(The way you talk to me, the way you're lovin' me)
(The way you give it to me)

You rocked my world, you know you did
(Give it to me)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah...yeah...ooh)
You rocked my world (You rocked my world), you know
you did
(You rocked my world, you rocked my world)

(Come on, girl) You rocked my world (Come on, girl),
you know you did
(Baby, baby, baby)
And everything I own I give
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine

You rocked my world, you know you did
And everything I own I give
The rarest love who'd think I'd find
Someone like you to call mine

Honestly, this song reminds me of the movie Drive Me Crazy (1999) which I'm not ashamed to admit that I loved when it came out.

(You Drive me) Crazy by Britney Spears on Grooveshark

(You Drive Me) Crazy

Baby, I'm so into you
You got that Somthin, what can I do

Birthday Milky Way Cake...

25 Years Of My Sister...

Today is my sister's 25th birthday (Or the 25th anniversary of the death of my only childom), so we went out for dinner in Queens. We went to the Cuban restaurant I'm always talking about and we had a fest of yummy yummy Cuban food.
After stuffing ourselves we headed back home to the most amazing birthday cake I have ever had. My mother and sister went to some bakery that makes Milky Way cakes and it was amazing (I'm honestly looking for an excuse to go get another cake from there).

We Gon' Party Like It's Yo Birthday...

Last night I went out with my sister, her boyfriend, my cousin Lisa, her boyfriend and a bunch of my sister's friends to celebrate my sister's 25th birthday (Her actual birthday is tomorrow). We went to a bunch of local bars where everyone above got smashed and I just hung out as their designated driver (I didn't have to be but I knew I had things to do today, so I opted not to drink).

It was a pretty fun and amusing, they all had a great time and I had fun despite not drinking. The only real issue we had throughout the course of the evening was the fact that all the bars, even the ones that normally aren't, were packed because it is Memorial Day weekend. But despite that we made the best of it.

Music A To Z: X Is For...

X is for... Nothing. I got nothing for you. Sorry.

Memorial Day With The Mets...

Instead of spending Memorial  Day at a BBQ, I spent it at Citi Field with Justin and Erin. We got there around 10:45am, bought some tickets and proceeded to pregame in the parking lot -- I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda drunk by 11:30am.

So basically we spent the day hanging out in the Queens heat (We were in the shade throughout the course of the game and it was still hot as hell), we ate some ballpark food and unfortunately watched the Mets lose to the Phillies. It was still all fun.
