Lovely Les Misérables...

Yesterday I got a call from Phil asking me what I was doing in the evening on Christmas because he wanted to know if I wanted to go see Les Misérables (2012) with him and a few other people. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to go with him because I'm not going to be around and I'm honestly so sad about it because I'm super psyched to see Les Misérables (Whenever that may be).

Is anyone else looking forward to it?! I wanna know if I'm the only one, because I'm not gonna lie the more I see commercials for Les Mis the more excited I get about it. Someone lemme know if it's just me or are any of you excited about it too.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

If you don't know anything about this particular version of Les Misérables or Les Misérables in general here is blurb a la my favorite publicist and an extended first look that you can watch to get an idea of how epic this movie is going to be if you like musicals...

Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year.  Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.  Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole.  When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

In December 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale.  With international superstars and beloved songs—including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”—Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.

Over The Belt From Long Island To Our Friend's Door...

Yesterday I went into Queens with Erin to hang out with our friend because she was getting out of work at normal people hours (She works retail so she works crazy weird hours) and would be able to do things because her daughter was going to be with her grandmother (We took advantage of the situation).

In an attempt to not get stuck in traffic we left early, and it ended up being way early. So Erin and I ended up sitting in her car for like an hour waiting for our friend to get home (If we had keys like she promised us we would have been in her apartment). Eventually she got home and we got to go inside of her apartment just to wait for Maria to get off from work and to drive into Queens herself. After about an hour or so of waiting Maria shows up and we head to Kew Gardens to go out to dinner to some place our friend knew.

She was really excited to take us to this restaurant Austin's Stake & Ale House that has been a huge part of her life before her "Long Island Life" -- She met her ex-husband there, her best friend's husband, was proposed to there, had her bridal and baby showers, etc. at this place. So we all went there and it was horrible! The service was terrible (Which was surprising since the managers were all "_____ is here!"), Erin had hair in her food and I had ordered Fettuccine Alfredo and there were pieces of chicken in it (I don't eat chicken or any other meats except bacon once in a blue moon) when I made a point of saying I didn't want anything but the pasta. When I said something to the waiter he was like "Oh yeah, they put chicken on it by accident and took it off..." Pardon me, but who the fuck says that?!?!! Maria, Erin and I were pissed, our friend was so embarrassed. It was bad. We spoke to the managers, they took mine & Erin's meals off the bill.

After dealing with the cluster we headed to a local liquor store to get some wine and champagne (Which costs more in Queens than it does by us), then we headed back to the apartment to hang out.
We drank, ate chocolate & chilenitos, Maria tried to rip the radiator cover off the wall so we could try and lower the temperature in the apartment because it was boiling in there and just talked about randomness.
Eventually out friend kicked us out because she had to wake up at the ass crack of dawn to go to work and we headed back home.

I Haven't Worked In Exactly A Month...

I cannot believe that as of today it has been exactly a month since the last time I went to work. You'd think I'd be enjoying not going to work but I really don't. I'm all sorts of bored to the point where I'm constantly looking for something to do around Justin's place (His apartment had NEVER been this clean) as I sit around waiting to hear something about my job and when I can go back to work.

I was once told by an unemployed friend that after a week or so of sleeping in late it gets old and you really want/need something to do because it gets boring really quickly, which I didn't believe when they told me but they were completely right. Sleeping in and watching daytime television is getting boring.

I mean, I've been running around and doing various things for my family whenever they ask me to but having to do randomness has become less and less as our house has been cleanedish and is being fixed. We have electricity, running/hot water, etc. The only thing we don't have yet is heat because my parents had to order a new boiler and that is thankfully going to be installed tomorrow. Once we get that in we can all technically move back in because our bedrooms weren't damaged during the storm, but the house still have a lovely odor thanks to all flood/sewer water that molded our den.

But yeah, it's crazy to think that it's almost been a month since Hurricane Sandy hit and ruined everything. And that my library still isn't open.

I Found George 335 Miles Away From Home...

You all may not know this but I'm a sucker for a bill with a 'Where's George' stamp on it. The other day while I was out shopping I got a dollar with that familiar stamp on it and I had to go see where it came from. This particular dollar took a 4 year, 60 day long trip at an average of 0.22 miles per day from Westfield, NY to get to my pocket.

Am I a super nerd? Does anyone else enter the location in of a 'Where's George' stamped bill if they find one?

This is the information on the last bill I found: Twenty Dollar Bill, Serial# IB018---65B Series: 2006

Visiting Friends...

Since the hurricane a lot of my friends have become displaced because of all of the damage done to their houses and apartments, so Erin and I have been going around for the past couple of days and visiting some of them.

On Monday after some shopping we stopped by Nicole's new place to see her and baby Jack. We helped her with somethings around the house and just caught up. It was nice hanging out with mama and baby for a few hours, especially since I haven't seen Jack in a while. The place they are staying in is relatively close to Justin's apartment so I'll be going to visit them often.

Yesterday we drove into Queens to see our friend (The one that moved to Raleigh and then back) and her daughter. We picked her daughter up from school with her, took them to Tortilleria Nixtamal for some amazing tacos (Which was an adventure all in itself because I had to drive from Richmond Hill to Corona and I hate driving in the boroughs) and then we went back to her new unfurnished apartment where we talked, played hide & go seek in the dark, etc.
I'm really glad we got to go visit peoples. It kinda makes things feel normal and it's nice to see people picking themselves back up and trying to start again even if it isn't where we're all from.

AM Phone Calls...

Can we talk about how today is the one day since the hurricane hit that I've slept in and my Director calls me and wakes me up. I answered all groggy and he was like "Really Ms. _______ you're still asleep?!" Ugh!

The only good thing about him waking me up is that I now know that the school finally filed for mitigation and the clean up on the actual building can finally begin. I mean, I still don't know when I'll get to go back to work but things are at least looking up.

Week In Instagram: November 11th-17th...

Out In The East Village...

Last night I went into NYC for a get together with my Binghamton peoples because our friend Matt came over from across the pond.

Before meeting up with all of my college friends Justin, Erin and I went out to dinner at Caracas Arepa Bar (If you ever watched Throwdown With Bobby Flay on Food Network, it was featured on an episode) because they both insisted we did so. I hated it. I hated everything I ordered and it made me nauseous (Later on in the evening Erin admitted to me that she didn't like it either but promised Justin she wouldn't say anything to me). So I won't ever be going back there again.

After being nauseated, we walked over to St. Mark's Ale House because that is where we were meeting up with my friends. Slowly people trickled in and because of that we had to deal with an evil bitch waitress who threatened to kick us out of the table we got if some other customers walked in and wanted to sit there because apparently we had to order stuff from her not the bar (We got drinks at the bar and then the table cleared up so we took it). She found the need to threaten us but she didn't notice we said we'd order drinks from her, so she never brought over any kind of menu. After fifteen minutes of getting bitchface from this one waitress we flagged down another and asked for menus. Then the drinking began.
A handful of drinks in Liz decided that she was hungry, so we left the boys to guard the table and we walked over to Pommes Frites. The three of us stuffed our faces with fries and various dipping sauces then headed back to continue drinking with the boys.
Eventually everyone got there and we just hung out; drinking, singing, etc. We had a really good time. Unfortunately due to the crappy LIRR schedule once midnight hit we had to run back to Penn Station because no one wants to get stuck there for hours or ride the drunk train.

Friday's Letters...

Dear Hurricane Sandy: It's been almost three weeks since you hit and I hate you still, probably even more.

Dear Erin & Maria: I love all of the old pictures of us we've found throughout the course of these past few weeks!

Dear Cranberry Almond Muffins: Why you so yummy?!?!!

Dear Binghamton Peeps: Thank you for giving me a distraction from everything that has been going on, even if it was just for the evening.

Dear Casetagram: Thanks for sending me a new iPhone 5 case after the original one I bought broke for no reason two days after I got it. I hope this one lasts longer & if it doesn't I will send you another angry drunk e-mail.

Dear Justin: I love you! Thank you for letting me stay with you and not forcing me to freeze my ass off at my heatless house or be stuck with people I don't want to be around at my uncle's house.

Dear Ghost Justin's Apartment: I know you're here!

Dear Diamond Candles: Your candles are amazing and I can't wait to send you more of my money.

Dear Sneakpeeq: Why the hell are you taking so long to send me my damn Diamond Candle?!?!!

Dear Readers: Thank you for all of your kind words and well wishes. I cannot express how much your comments have meant to me and how much they are helping me deal.
