Andy Warhol — From A to B & Back Again At The Whitney

On Wednesday Nicole and I played hooky from work and went into New York City to go to the Whitney Museum of American Art to see the exhibition "Andy Warhol— From A to B and Back Again" before it closes on March 31st.

Here are some of the random photos we took throughout the course of our day...

Personally I love Warhol's work, so I enjoyed this exhibition very much. And if you like his work I recommend checking it out if you can before it closes on Sunday.

For anyone interested, here is a blurb about the exhibition from the Whitney's website:
The exhibition positions Warhol's career as a continuum, demonstrating that he didn't slow down after surviving the assassination attempt that nearly took his life in 1968, but entered into a period of intense experimentation. The show illuminates the breadth, depth, and interconnectedness of the artist’s production: from his beginnings as a commercial illustrator in the 1950s, to his iconic Pop masterpieces of the early 1960s, to the experimental work in film and other mediums from the 1960s and 70s, to his innovative use of readymade abstraction and the painterly sublime in the 1980s. His repetitions, distortions, camouflaging, incongruous color, and recycling of his own imagery challenge our faith in images and the value of cultural icons, anticipating the profound effects and issues of the current digital age.  This is the largest monographic exhibition to date at the Whitney's new location, with more than 350 works of art, many assembled together for the first time.   The exhibition is organized by Donna De Salvo, Deputy Director for International Initiatives and Senior Curator, with Christie Mitchell, senior curatorial assistant, and Mark Loiacono, curatorial research associate.

Stuck In My Head: Money

Earlier in the day myself, Nicole and a couple of other staff members had a ten minute dance party in our office just because (Don't worry, there were no patrons around) and ever since then I've had "Money" by Cardi B stuck in my head. And you know how it goes, if it's stuck in my head I'm gonna try to get it stuck in yours...

Have you ever just had an impromptu dance party at work just to relax for a couple of minutes? Or do you think we're crazy? Lemme know!

8 Tour | Incubus At Jones Beach...

As you all may or may not know, Incubus is not only my favorite band but my sister's also. So every time they come through New York on tour we go to see them. And as you can probably guess, this was the case this past Wednesday night when they played Jones Beach Theater here on Long Island.

My sister, her fiancé, Nicole and I (And almost everyone we went to high school with apparently according to Facebook and Instagram) went to rock out to Incubus with Jimmy Eat World (Whom I didn't pay attention to until they played "The Middle" and "Sweetness") on their 8 Tour.

As always, Incubus was amazing. They just put on such a great show and are so incredible to watch live -- Trust me I know, I've seen them live eleven times in the past fourteen years. In addition to that, I love going with my sister because we always have a great time no matter what the weather is like (When we saw Incubus with Linkin Park [Can we talk about how incredibly sad it is that Chester Bennington committed suicide?] in 2012 on the Honda Civic Tour, it was so gross outside and we had to wear ponchos but it was still a great time) or whatever else is going on.

For any of you interested, here is the setlist they played that night. I thought it was a good mix of their older hits and newer songs.

Setlist

Mini Life Update + Month In Review: January 2017...

As you've all probably noticed last month was very light on blog post and it's not for a lack of doing anything (Just look at the highlights from my month). It's because when I came back to work from my annual end of the year vacation I had to reassemble my desk because we had new carpeting put into our office while I was out. Then a couple of days later I had to disassemble it again because my Department Head decided that she wanted to have a bookshelf installed behind my desk and that just became a whole big deal. So for a good couple of weeks I was displaced with no access to my computer (I was literally sitting in the middle of our office in my chair sulking at one point because there was no place for me to go). And also because I caught the stomach bug that has been going around and was just miserable for a sold week and a half (I honestly still don't feel great) -- All of this while I was taking turns watching Nella with my sister because our parents were in Florida. So yeah, that's why there has been a serious lack of post this month but I promise that I'll be on the ball next month.

Now on to my first month in review of 2017...

From The Hold Shelf (Or What I'm About To Read)...

As I was taking a picture of "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo" by Amy Schumer for Instagram yesterday I realized that I haven't done a From The Hold Shelf post since March. So I decided I needed to get on that and share what I'm reading/listening to with you guys...

"Washington: A Life" by Ron Chernow
Celebrated biographer Ron Chernow provides a richly nuanced portrait of the father of our nation and the first president of the United States. With a breadth and depth matched by no other one volume biography of George Washington, this crisply paced narrative carries the reader through his adventurous early years, his heroic exploits with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, his presiding over the Constitutional Convention, and his magnificent performance as America's first president. In this groundbreaking work, based on massive research, Chernow shatters forever the stereotype of George Washington as a stolid, unemotional figure and brings to vivid life a dashing, passionate man of fiery opinions and many moods.

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now, Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is—a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend—an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she’s experiencing lust-at-first-sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor’s secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably—but only because it’s over.

Because I couldn't get my hands on a copy of "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow (Justin has a copy of it on his Kindle but I refuse to use an e-reader) I started listening to Chernow's "Washington: A Life" because Adam Savage was talking so highly of it on an episode of his podcast Still Untitled. And I must agree with Adam, it is an excellent biography and I was only up to chapter nineteen when my hold expired (I had it downloaded on Overdrive and now I have to wait to get it again). So as soon as I get my hands on another copy and finish it, I'll let you know how I feel about the rest of it.

Now because I can't finish that book I'm going to start Amy Schumer's "The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo" which Nicole told me is funny as hell. We shall see...

Are you reading anything good, bad or meh right now? I'd love to know what you're reading.

Satly Poetry | A Haiku...

Last week someone was really rude to Nicole on Facebook, so much so that she deleted the post that prompted the rude comment and rightfully complained about the incident for days. So jokingly while we were working together (After helping a patron whose second grader had a poetry project that we helped the parent with extensively) we started writing haikus about being salty. And we've been on a roll with it ever since.

Since we've written so many poems I thought I'd share my favorite, which if you follow me on Instagram you may or may not have seen. So here it is, remember it's just a stupid poem and I wrote it to make my friend feel better about something shitty someone said to her...
If you wanna see the other poems we wrote lemme know. If you don't and I offended you, sorry.
