From End To End | Adventures In Montauk & Brooklyn...

For the longest time I've wanted to drive to Camp Hero State Park out in Montauk here on Long Island because it used to be an Air Force station, so there are some buildings there from when it was and I wanted to check them out because I love abandoned things, plus I love a good outing at a park.
So this past Saturday Justin, Phil, Erin and I finally drove out to Camp Hero to do some hiking (Have to break in those boots for Iceland) and exploring of the old building on the property.

We got about four hours worth of hiking and exploring in before it started to rain. During those hours, we saw some awesome wildlife, cool old buildings and batteries from when it was an operational military station from 1941-1981 and a bunch of other neat stuff.

After our adventure we headed back to one of our other friend's houses to shower off, eat dinner and play video games until the wee hours of the morning.

On Sunday Justin, Erin and I headed over to Phil's apartment to meet up with him so we could drive out to Brooklyn to attend the Morbid Anatomy Museum's Morbid Anatomy Flea Market. We got there maybe thirty minutes after the event started and there was a line around the block to get in. We waited on line for a while but decided to not wait any longer because the set up seemed a little ridiculous to us and it was misty out.

So we decided that since we were already in Brooklyn that we'd drive over to Williamsburg and hit up the Brooklyn Flea Market. Which was a much better idea.
We ate a bunch of food from various vendors, bought randomness and then headed to the Bushwick Inlet Park to hang out because it ended up being a beautiful day after the AM mist.
After the park and hitting up the Flea for some doughnuts to take home and some ice pops from People's Pops for the road, we headed back to Phil's dropped off the food and then we drove to Sands Point Preserve to do a little light hiking and wander around there.

At some point it started to drizzle, so we left the park and hit up Salvatore's Coal Fire Pizza for dinner before heading our separate ways.

So yeah, that was my weekend. We literally drove over one hundred and fifty miles all over Long Island to do all of these things and I think they were totally worth the mileage on Phil's car.

What did you do this weekend?

Ted 2...

Wednesday night I had the opportunity to attend an advance screening of Seth MacFarlane's newest offering Ted 2 (2015), which I was lucky to get enough tickets to so that I got to see it with my sister, cousin Nick and one of my other friends -- Which I'm noting to all of you because the four of us have varying taste in movies.
Seth MacFarlane returns as writer, director and voice star of Ted 2, Universal and Media Rights Capital’s follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time.  Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow Ted writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as Jason Clark and John Jacobs.

Genre: Live Action/CG-Animated Comedy
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, John Slattery and Morgan Freeman
Director: Seth MacFarlane
Writers: Seth MacFarlane & Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild
Produced by: Scott Stuber, Seth MacFarlane, Jason Clark, John Jacobs
Executive Producers: Alec Sulkin, Wellesley Wild
Rated: R
Release Date: June 26th, 2015

As I stated above, I went to this particular screening with three other individuals and we all walked out of the theater thinking the same exact thing "That movie was fucking hilarious!" All four of us were in total agreement that Ted 2 was the funniest movie we had seen in a while. Literally from the minute the movie started until it ended, we were all cracking up.

That all being said, I must note that I am a fan of Seth MacFarlane's work. I love Family Guy (1999-Present) and I really enjoyed Ted (2012) and A Million Ways To Die In The West, so if you don't enjoy him and his body of work I don't know if Ted 2 will be your cup of tea. But like I said, the four of us have varying taste in films and we all really really liked it. I mean, how could you not like a movie about a pot smoking, beer drinking stuffed bear that came to life that wants to be considered a person.

I liked it. I recommend it. I'd legalize Ted.

If any of you go see it, I'd love to know how you liked it.

Stuck In My Head: Sweet Lady...

So there is a story behind this song being stuck in my head, granted it's a silly one but there is a story nonetheless...

This past weekend was Lisa's bridal shower and one of the games we played was "Who Has The Groom" -- Which for those of you unfamiliar with it is a game in which you print out pictures of tuxedos, cut out and glue pictures of celebrity heads and the groom's head on to said tuxedos, stuff them into envelopes and at the bridal shower whoever ended up with the groom wins a prize. Well, I'm the person who cut, glued and what-have-you to make the game and one of the celebrity heads was Tyrese's. And every time I looked at his particular card all I could hear in my head was "Sweet lady would you be my sweet love for a lifetime..." So yeah, that is why this song is stuck in my head.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the Tyrese card but here are some of the others, including the groom...

Back in December Chantelle of FatMumSlim made a list of twenty-four fun photos to snap over the summer in conjunction with Olympus Australia, and I've been saving the list to use for once summer rolled around here in the Northern Hemisphere. And since today is the official start of summer, here is the list...

When Ticks Attack | Misfit Librarian PSA...

As I've stated in previous posts Justin and I have been going on hikes to prepare for our upcoming trip to Iceland and this past Sunday Justin, Erin and I drove out to Manorville here on Long Island and went for a hike at the Manorville Hills County Park.
http://www.pinebarrens.org/pdfs/Trail%20Guide%202011/MANORVILLE%20for%20website.pdf
We had never been to this particular park before and since Erin and Justin had been talking about a ton of other parks, I was under the impression that the hiking trail around Manorville Hills County Park was a five-ish mile hike. WRONG. It ended up being more of a seven plus mile hike with a bunch of random inclines.
So about two and a half hours into our hike I wasn't digging it anymore and we decided to stop, sit on some rocks, reevaluate and try to figure out how to shorten our hike. We figured out that another trail intersected the one we were on and it would cut our hike down. So we continued walking for about another hour before stopping again. Like the previous time, we sat down on a rock, drank some water but this time we noticed deer ticks on our legs (Which is actually something neither of us have ever dealt with before, despite the fact that we go camping every year and frequently visit state parks neither of us has ever had or seen an actual tick before). Justin and I both flicked a couple of ticks off of each of ourselves and then the three of us sprayed ourselves down with bug spray.
Another hour or so later, with another stop (This time Erin and I pulled a "Leave us here to die..." moment with Justin because we both got lightheaded at the same time) and another detour we finally got back to our car. we jumped in, stopped at the nearest store for more water, Powerade and ice pops, and then we drove back home.

As soon as we were back in our apartment Justin and I threw our clothing into the washing machine and jumped in the shower for a tick inspection. That is when I found a tick on the back of Justin's thigh. I had a mini internal freak attack, grabbed a pair of tweezers and pulled that sucker off.

Since dealing with that and becoming slightly paranoid after finding out we are apparently having a bad tick season here on Long Island, I've done some more research on ticks and Lyme Disease and I thought I'd share some of the things that I've read with you guys.

Below is a list of some of the most frequently encountered tick species:
  • Deer Tick - Ixodes scapularis (=Ixodes dammini)
  • Dog Tick - Dermacentor variabilis
  • Lone Star Tick - Amblyomma americanum
  • Brown Dog Tick - Rhipicephalus sanguineus
  • Wood Tick - Dermacentor andersoni
  • Western Blacklegged Tick - Ixodes pacificus
  • European Wood Tick - Ixodes ricinus
  • Gulf Coast Tick - Amblyomma maculatum
  • Winter Tick - Dermacentor albipictus
The following information is from the NYS Department of Health website...

How Can I Protect Against Ticks & Prevent Lyme Disease?
Deer ticks live in shady, moist areas at ground level. They will cling to tall grass, brush and shrubs, usually no more than 18-24 inches off the ground. They also live in lawns and gardens, especially at the edges of woods and around old stone walls.

Deer ticks cannot jump or fly, and do not drop onto passing people or animals. They get on humans and animals only by direct contact. Once a tick gets on the skin, it generally climbs upward until it reaches a protected area.

In tick-infested areas, your best protection is to avoid contact with soil, leaf litter and vegetation. However, if you garden, hike, camp, hunt, work or otherwise spend time in the outdoors, you can still protect yourself:
  • Wear light-colored clothing with a tight weave to spot ticks easily.
  • Wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
  • Tuck pant legs into socks or boots and shirt into pants.
  • Check clothes and any exposed skin frequently for ticks while outdoors.
  • Consider using insect repellent.
  • Stay on cleared, well-traveled trails. Walk in the center of trails. Avoid dense woods and bushy areas.
  • Avoid sitting directly on the ground or on stone walls.
  • Keep long hair tied back, especially when gardening.
  • Bathe or shower as soon as possible after going indoors (preferably within two hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks that may be on you.
  • Do a final, full-body tick check at the end of the day (also check children and pets), and remove ticks promptly.
Also Consider These Important Facts:
  • If you tuck pants into socks and shirts into pants, be aware that ticks will climb upward to hidden areas of the head and neck, so spot-check clothes frequently.
  • Clothes can be sprayed with DEET or treated with permethrin. Follow label instructions carefully.
  • Upon returning home, clothes can be put in a high temperature dryer for 20 minutes to kill any unseen ticks.
  • Any contact with vegetation, even playing in the yard, can result in exposure to ticks. Frequent tick checks should be followed by a whole-body examination and tick removal each night. This is the single most effective method for prevention of Lyme disease.
How Can I Safely Remove A Tick?
If you DO find a tick attached to your skin, do not panic. Not all ticks are infected, and your risk of Lyme disease is greatly reduced if the tick is removed within the first 36 hours.

To Remove A Tick:
  • Use a pair of pointed tweezers to grasp the tick by the head or mouth parts right where they enter the skin. DO NOT grasp the tick by the body.
  • Pull firmly and steadily outward. DO NOT jerk or twist the tick.
  • Place the tick in a small container of rubbing alcohol to kill it.
  • Clean the bite wound with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
  • Monitor the site of the bite for the next 30 days for the appearance of a rash. If you develop a rash or flu-like symptoms, contact your health care provider immediately. Although not routinely recommended, taking antibiotics within three days after a tick bite may be beneficial for some persons. This would apply to deer tick bites that occurred in areas where Lyme disease is common and there is evidence that the tick fed for more than one day. In cases like this you should discuss the possibilities with your doctor or health care provider.

In addition to that here is a video DNews posted about Lyme Disease this past week...

I hope you guys found my little tick PSA informative.

8 Songs I Will Never Get Tired Of (With Music Videos)...

Since I did my "10 Movies I Can Watch Over & Over Again" you had to have known that I was going to do a music list eventually, so here that is...

1. "Wish You Were Here" by Incubus (2001)
If you've been following me for awhile you know that in my life it isn't officially summer out until the first day where it's hot enough for me to crank down all of the windows in my car and to blast "Wish You Were Here" by Incubus. In my head that is the beginning of summer and it has been for the past twelve years.

2. "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" by Backstreet Boys (1997)
As most of you should know by now, I'm an N'Sync fan through and through but there is just something about Backstreet Boy's "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" that I love and I could just listen to this song on repeat. In fact I did it the other day while I was driving home from work.

3. "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston (1992)
I absolutely love Whitney's version on this song and it's a song I've loved since I was a child. So I figure I haven't gotten tired of it in twenty-three years, I'm never going to get tired of it.

4. "Hotel California" by Eagles (1973)
This is hands down one my favorite classic rock song ever. It's my ringtone for my cousin Yvette when she calls me. When I was a teenager all I wanted to do was learn how to play it on the guitar.

5. "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer (1995)
"Say It Ain't So" is one of my favorite songs by Weezer and I will never change the station if I hear it on.

6. "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" by Jimi Hendrix (1968)
This song just reminds me of my dad and driving in his Jeep Wrangler down the Ocean Parkway.

7. "Bye Bye Bye" by N'Sync (2000)
This is hands down one of my favorite N'Sync songs. I love N'Sync. No other explanation needed...

8. "Everlong" by Foo Fighters (1997)
It's mine and Justin's song, so of course I'm never going to get tired of it.

So those are the eight songs I will never get tired of. What are yours? Lemme know!

RE: Entenmann's Banana Cake | A Tale Of Love & Hate...

So as I mentioned on Tuesday, I brought the Entenmann's cake into work because I thought that Nicole was working and I was planning on sharing it with her. Well I was wrong and she wasn't scheduled to work but I kinda wanted to crack in to anyways and thought that the I'd share some of it with "Lori" and "Emily" and save the rest for the next day when Nicole was in.

I busted open the box, cut three slices of cake and am ready to dig in when "Julia" walks up to me and asks me for a piece of cake...

Now before I go on with my tale I must let you all know that I have told "Julia" in the past that I will never offer her food because she is always super rude to me when it comes to ordering takeout and when other people on staff have ordered food with her, she hasn't given them enough money and doesn't take into account tax or tip. So basically, no one ever offers "Julia" food.

...I look her dead in the eyes and say no. She starts stuttering and asking me why not. I reply that it's my cake, I can share it with whomever I please and that I brought the cake in to share with Nicole but she wasn't in and I wanted to have a piece of MY cake, blah blah blah. She proceeds to tell me that me saying no "Is very telling of what kind of person I am..."

At this point I closed my eyes, collected my thoughts so I wouldn't scream at her and say in calm, low voice "Very telling of what kind of person I am? Why should I give you anything? You never offer me anything and plus I have told you in the past that I will NEVER offer you food in any matter. And our Department Head has told you that no one has to offer anyone anything... This is my cake. I bought it because it reminds me of my friend in California and you are honestly ruining this piece of cake for me."

Well she continues to stutter and go on and on about how I am lowering the moral in the office -- I stopped myself from screaming that the only thing lowering moral in our office is the fact that she gets paid more than the rest of us and all she does is sleep and fuck everything up royally. I really really really wanted to say that to her, but I didn't -- and how basically I'm a terrible person. As she is saying all of this I hate ate my piece of cake.

Eventually she finishes her rant and I decided that I was going to go upstairs and clean the knife off. As I was going upstairs I got so angry I started to cry (I tend to cry when I can't scream at someone who is pissing me off) and one of the Adult Librarians, as well as our Assistant Director sees me. I tell them what happened and how "Julia" just ruined this cake that I wish I was sharing with my friend, etc.

After about fifteen or so minutes I come back down and "Emily" tells me that "Julia" had said something about an incident (Which was really a misunderstanding that she tried to get me fired over) we had had years ago that was the beginning of our hatred for each other, blah blah blah. Whatever she said to "Emily" pissed her off and she told "Julia" she was so beyond wrong and that the incident she was speaking about was a misunderstanding and she really needs to let it go.

Once I knew she said all of that I knew that she asked me for a piece of cake because she thought I'd scream or yell and that she was trying to bait me into doing something that she could get me in trouble for. She is currently up to her neck in trouble here and I guess she figured she could get some heat off of herself if she could get me to yell and then she'd be able to go cry upstairs to someone about how terrible I am. But unlike her I'm not stupid and as much as I want to, I will not yell at anyone in or on library property.

So realizing this and the fact that I looked visably upset I asked "Emily" and "Lori" to go inside of the office, looked at "Julia" in front of both of them and said "I'm not going to appologize to you for not giving you a piece of cake because it was mine but there was a back story behind that cake being here and I want you to know that you ruined that cake for me..." and then I started to cry. And by doing that, her whole plan just circled down the drain.

She mumbled some more stupid stuff and eventually kind of apologized. I just kept my face in my hands and she just stopped talking.

Apaprently she knew she had screwed up and hasn't mentioned the incident to our Department Head. But I did and she is just disgusted that "Julia" would even pull that crap with me.

There is a happy ending to this tale. I did the next day get to share the rest of the cake with Nicole and it was delicious.

Not So Clever Girl | Minor Fender Bender & Jurassic World...

Yesterday Justin and I decided that we were going to go see Jurassic World (2015) after we both got off from work. So I rushed home after getting off at 5:00pm to pick Justin up so we could catch a 7:00pm IMAX 3D screening of the movie. Everything was going well. I got home a little before 6:00pm, Justin jumped into my car and we started driving to the theater.

Before we got to the theater Justin asked me to swing into 7-Eleven so he could get some snacks to sneak into the theater. Even though I was totally into the idea of a big tub of popcorn and a giant overpriced drink, I stopped for him. He ran in, got his contraband and we were ready to go.

I checked my mirrors and behind me, everything was clear so I backed up and BAM. The lady in the parking spot directly across from mine pulled out at the same exact time as I did and we hit each other. My car just had some surface scratches but unfortunately the side of the back passenger bumper was dented in on her car and it was apparently a loaner car from a dealership, so she wanted to report the accident.

Thankfully the lady was nice even though the accident caused her to go over her fifteen minute break at work. And we both were apologetic about the fact that we both couldn't believe that we didn't see each other.

Fast forward twenty-thirty minutes and a police officer shows up. We all tell him what happened. He gives us the information we need to get the police report and we all get to go on our merry way.

At this point we have ten minutes before the movie starts but thankfully it all literately happened across the street from where the movie was playing. So we drove over, ran in, got our tickets and searched for seats. We couldn't find seats next to each other but we found two so that he'd be right behind me.

In terms of the movie, I absolutely loved it and Justin really enjoyed it. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but it had the perfect amount of references to Jurassic Park (1993) and was just a lot of fun. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone thinking about seeing it. And if you can see it in IMAX 3D, do it. Justin and I aren't typically into 3D movies but we really enjoyed it and it didn't make Justin nauseous.

If you go see it or have seen it already, lemme know. I'd love to know what you thought of it.

Cholecystectomy | No More Gallbladder For Kristina...

A little over nine years after having my own, my sister had a cholecystectomy (The surgical removal of the gallbladder) yesterday and like me, she had it done laparoscopically (A surgical technique in which operations are performed far from their location through small incisions elsewhere in the body) -- Which is basically how everyone has it done nowadays, unless the surgeon runs into a problem and then you end up getting sliced open.

For those of you that are unaware of what causes gallbladder problems, they are "usually caused by the presence of gallstones which are small hard masses consisting primarily of cholesterol and bile salts that form in the gallbladder or in the bile duct. And can block the flow of bile out of the gallbladder, causing it to swell and resulting in sharp abdominal pain, vomiting, indigestion and, occasionally, fever" according to the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons' site.

Both my sister and I suffered from the sharp abdominal pains, which were horrific and landed us each in an emergency room. But unlike me, my sister did not have an inflamed gallbladder so she got to schedule her surgery (Which she scheduled around a trip to Cancun that she went on with her boyfriend last week). While I ended up having emergency surgery two days after my twenty-first birthday. But yeah...
So because she had the surgery yesterday, I took the day off and spent almost all of it with her and our parents in the hospital (Where I cracked very inappropriate jokes to make her laugh because I could tell that she was super nervous) and at their house once she was discharged.

In terms of the actual surgical procedure, it went extremely well. She had no complications and according to both the surgeon and anesthesiologist "It was a textbook case that couldn't have gone any better..." and because of that she was as in and out of the hospital as quickly as one could be after having an organ removed. And she is currently at home relaxing and recovering.

So that is how I spent my Thursday. I Snapchatted throughout the course of the time we were at the hospital but I forgot to save the video or I would have shared it with all of you because it was funny. Oh well...

Are any of you members of the gallbladderless club? Lemme know.
