Mini Life Update + Month In Review: January 2017...

As you've all probably noticed last month was very light on blog post and it's not for a lack of doing anything (Just look at the highlights from my month). It's because when I came back to work from my annual end of the year vacation I had to reassemble my desk because we had new carpeting put into our office while I was out. Then a couple of days later I had to disassemble it again because my Department Head decided that she wanted to have a bookshelf installed behind my desk and that just became a whole big deal. So for a good couple of weeks I was displaced with no access to my computer (I was literally sitting in the middle of our office in my chair sulking at one point because there was no place for me to go). And also because I caught the stomach bug that has been going around and was just miserable for a sold week and a half (I honestly still don't feel great) -- All of this while I was taking turns watching Nella with my sister because our parents were in Florida. So yeah, that's why there has been a serious lack of post this month but I promise that I'll be on the ball next month.

Now on to my first month in review of 2017...

The Visit...

Wednesday night I had the opportunity to attended an advance screening of M. Night Shyamalan's newest offering The Visit (2015), which I was super excited about being invited to because the trailer for this movie looks awesome.

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit.  Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip.  Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.

Shyamalan produces The Visit through his Blinding Edge Pictures, while Blum produces through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Marc Bienstock (Quarantine 2: Terminal).  Steven Schneider (Insidious) and Ashwin Rajan (Devil) executive produce the thriller.

Genre: Thriller
Cast: Kathryn Hahn, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie, Ed Oxenbould, Olivia DeJonge
Written and Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Produced by: M. Night Shyamalan, Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock
Executive Producers: Steven Schneider, Ashwin Rajan
Rated: PG-13
Release Date: September 11th, 2015

Seeing as this is an M. Night Shyamalan film I don't want to go into too much detail about the movie, but what I will say is that it totally wasn't what the three of us (Myself, Nick and my sister's boyfriend Erik) were expecting and because of that we loved it more than we would have if it was what we thought it was. Does that make any sense?

If it doesn't, just know that we all really enjoyed it. It was ninety-four minutes of pure entertainment in my opinion, as well as that of the guys.

It's the kind of movie where if there is a good crowd (That is if you're into an interactive crowd. I am when it comes to horror/thriller type movies), it'll be even better. There were lots of people jumping back in their seats, screaming and making comments in the theater (I love me a well timed "OH HELL NO!") and it was just golden.

Overall I'm super happy with M. Night's newest offering to the World, especially since the last film of his that I saw was The Happening (2008) and I was not a fan of that one. I'd very much so recommend The Visit (2015) to anyone that enjoys M. Night's films or the thriller genre in general.

Ted 2...

Wednesday night I had the opportunity to attend an advance screening of Seth MacFarlane's newest offering Ted 2 (2015), which I was lucky to get enough tickets to so that I got to see it with my sister, cousin Nick and one of my other friends -- Which I'm noting to all of you because the four of us have varying taste in movies.
Seth MacFarlane returns as writer, director and voice star of Ted 2, Universal and Media Rights Capital’s follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time.  Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow Ted writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as Jason Clark and John Jacobs.

Genre: Live Action/CG-Animated Comedy
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, John Slattery and Morgan Freeman
Director: Seth MacFarlane
Writers: Seth MacFarlane & Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild
Produced by: Scott Stuber, Seth MacFarlane, Jason Clark, John Jacobs
Executive Producers: Alec Sulkin, Wellesley Wild
Rated: R
Release Date: June 26th, 2015

As I stated above, I went to this particular screening with three other individuals and we all walked out of the theater thinking the same exact thing "That movie was fucking hilarious!" All four of us were in total agreement that Ted 2 was the funniest movie we had seen in a while. Literally from the minute the movie started until it ended, we were all cracking up.

That all being said, I must note that I am a fan of Seth MacFarlane's work. I love Family Guy (1999-Present) and I really enjoyed Ted (2012) and A Million Ways To Die In The West, so if you don't enjoy him and his body of work I don't know if Ted 2 will be your cup of tea. But like I said, the four of us have varying taste in films and we all really really liked it. I mean, how could you not like a movie about a pot smoking, beer drinking stuffed bear that came to life that wants to be considered a person.

I liked it. I recommend it. I'd legalize Ted.

If any of you go see it, I'd love to know how you liked it.
