Run For Your Lives...

Last night "Favorite Page #2" was telling me about a 5K obstacle course zombie race called Run For Your Lives. It sounds like it could be so much fun!

Is it terrible that I think doing this is great motivation for me to actual go back to the gym?

I love the idea of this so I'm gonna mention it to Lenni, Erin and a handful of others and see if they wanna do the September 1st one in Butler, Pennsylvania (Even though it's forever away).

Birthday Party Recap...

Yesterday was my birthday party and I had an amazing time. I invited a bunch of my friends (Seventeen to be exact) to hang out with me in NYC, do a little day drinking and have some fun.

I didn't really have any set plans for the day, I just had three main birthday wishes that I wanted met. Aside from them, we played everything else by ear.

My Birthday Party Wishes...
  1. Have pizza from Artichoke ← I actually had pizza from there twice during the day
  2. Sing a Spice Girls song at karaoke ← We sang "Spice Up Your Life"
  3. Be drunk at midnight in the City ← This didn't happen but I didn't actually care
So basically the day went as follows... Justin and I got into the City around 1:00pm and headed to Greenwich Village to start the day off. He and I had lunch at Artichoke and when we were done we walked next door to Off The Wagon to get the party started.

Eventually other people started trickling in. We played beer pong, ate bar food, hung out, got into arguments with stupid chicks that don't understand the rules of beer pong, etc. until we decided that we were gonna move on to the next bar, but not before hitting up Artichoke for some more pizza.

After the pizza we headed over to 3 Sheets Saloon for $3.00 shots and when we had our fill of Cafe Patron shots & Buttery Nipples we walked to Karaoke Boho to get our bad karaoke on -- Oh, was it bad... Right before we got there I started loosing my voice, so I could not sing but I tried and had a ball. We sang for a while and decided that it was time to go home after awhile.

It was a really fun birthday celebration and I couldn't have asked for a better time.

On The Hunt...

I had the best day out with "Favorite Page #2" today. The two of us spend the entire day bopping from thrift store to thrift store and from record store to record store to see what LP's and 45's we could find -- Yup, we're both dorks with record players. It was so much fun and it was just nice to be able to go into those kinds of stores with someone who appreciated them and wouldn't get bored while one hunts around for crap. We enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to do it possible once a month if we were both free on the same day. I can't wait for our next trip!

Records:
  • Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (LP Sized Single)
  • Tiffany by Tiffany
  • Rump Shaker by Wreckx'n Effect (LP Sized Single)
  • When Doves Cry by Prince (LP Sized Single)
  • Hotel California by The Eagles
  • Aerosmith's Great Hits by Aerosmith
  • Jimi Hendrix Experience Smash Hits by Jimi Hendrix
  • Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice (LP Sized Single)
  • The Immaculate Collection by Madonna
  • Queen Greatest Hits by Queen
  • The Stranger by Billy Joel
  • Push It by Salt N Pepa (LP Sized Single)
  • Labyrinth Soundtrack
  • My Fair Lady Soundtrack
  • Peter Rabbit
  • Peter Pan
  • Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty
  • Reckless by Bryan Adams
  • Cheech y Chong's Up in Smoke
45" Singles:
  • "Let It Be" by The Beatles
  • "1999" by Prince
  • "I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones
  • "Can't Help Falling In Love" by UB40
  • "Non Dimenticar" by Nate King Cole
  • "Benny & The Jets" by Elton John
  • "Angie" by The Rolling Stones
  • "In The Navy" by The Village People
  • "Like A Virgin" by Madonna
  • "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel
  • "ABC" by The Jackson 5
  • "Lyin' Eyes" by The Eagles
  • "What's Love Got To Do With It" by Tina Turner
  • "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police
  • "That's The Way (I Like It)" by K.C. & The Sunshine Band
  • "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" by The 5th Dimensions
  • "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" by Elmo N Patsy
I actually have more 45's but I have no idea what they are because I bought bags full of them from the thrift stores for $1.00. I buy them like that because you never know what you're gonna get and I've been surprised by what I've gotten.

"Favorite Page #1" Is Back...

"Favorite Page #1" came back from college today for winter break! She was in town all of three hours before she came into the library to work with me because "Favorite Page #2" is away on vacation this week and I needed help with Video Game Night.

After getting paid to play video games with me and one of Justin's sisters for a couple of hours, we went out for a late dinner with Erin and drove around looking at Christmas lights. I think that it was a good first day back home, she seemed to enjoy herself.

All In The Family...

Apparently one of the Pages from the Adult Department has thought for the last two years that "Favorite Page #2" and I are brother and sister. We aren't related, we're both just of Caribbean decent so we kinda look a like. All of this was from someone we like, thus we didn't take offense to it and just had a good laugh about it.

I guess people think we're related because we kinda look a like, we get a long really well, I'm only four years older than him and I really do drive him places a lot. In reality, I've just known him forever because his mother used to work at the library (He was in like Middle School when I started working at the library). So, we've known each other for over seven years and I guess we do have a sibling like relationship because of that. It was still all just really funny.

Great 11/11/11...

I must say, despite having to deal with "Julia" today I had the best 11/11/11. While I was still at work "Favorite Page #1" showed up with one of her friends from college and surprised me -- She also bought me my favorite drink from Starbucks (Carmel Apple Spice). I had no idea that she was going to be home for the weekend and I was so happy to see her. She and her friend actually hung out with Lenni and I during Drawing Club -- "Favorite Page #2 also showed up and came to hang out with us too. It was amazing to see her because I miss her so much when she is gone.

Something I was happy I missed was having to deal with some teenage boys setting off a stink bomb in front of our reference desk-- I was in Drawing Club when it happened and "Julia" ended up having to deal with the entire thing, as well as clean up the mess. Yay positive energy of 11/11/11 in my favor!

After I left work my sister decided that she was going to take me out to dinner and we ended up going to one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island, Heart of Portugal. While feasting on one of my favorite meals of all time I got the best voicemail from Erin who was pissed off that I went there without her.
Voicemail Transcription:
"So my network of spies (aka Foursquare) tells me that you're at Heart of Portugal So first of all go fuck yourself and your champagne lobster with the saucy saucy sauce situation with the spoon and the pot and the little man that brings it to you and lifts the lid. I hate you right now. There's no forgiving you. And two how did you end up there when we are supposed to be going out to ladies night and what have you and blah blah blah. Please explain how champagne lobster got thrown into the mix and I was not invited. You are a whore, that is all. Thank you very much, have a nice night."
Best voicemail ever -- Aside from the ones I get from Phil singing me random songs. My sister and I were cracking up at our table in the restaurant listening to it.

Once we were done eating we did a little shopping and went home. What a great 11/11/11. I hope you all enjoyed yours.

Dazed & Confused...

I just realized that I forgot to post about "Julia's" extra odd behavior on Tuesday night. Around 7:30pm (an hour and a half after she punched out) she wanders into the department, walks into the office and sits at her desk mumbling loudly that she guesses that she doesn't have to take a cab home because her keys had gone missing and she found them. Then she just got up and walked out without saying anymore. It was really weird. She looked like a hot mess and she seem super zonked out. It really confused myself, "Emily" and "Favorite Page #2".

Trip To The Cemetery...

A few months ago ABC News had done a story on the Bayside Acacia Cemetery in Queens because it wasn't being properly taken care of, it was over grown with vegetation and mausoleums had been broken into, bodies were hanging out of coffins, etc. Obviously seeing as I love me a good cemetery I was itching to go. While I was at work a day or so after hearing about this place "Favorite Page #2" and I ended up talking about it and he said he would love to go.

Fast forward to Tuesday... While I was talking to "Favorite Page #1" about what she wanted to do while she was home for the next couple of days going to this cemetery came up and she agreed to going. So today instead of going to the zoo like she suggested she, "Favorite Page #2" and I drove to Queens with our cameras in tow to explore the cemetery. We got there with no problems what-so-ever, parked the car and tried to figure out how to get inside. Unfortunately because of all of the buzz surrounding it after being featured on the news it is only opened by appointment for family members of the deceased, which blows. But this didn't stop the three of us from wandering around the outside gates taking photos through it.

I can't begin to describe how tragically beautiful this place was. I really wish that I could have had a chance to walk through the property and take some photos because I'm sure they would have been amazing.

Eventually we left, but before leaving Queens we found another cemetery (Montefiore) that we could actually get into. And we spent a good long time in it wandering around the headstones, taking pictures. I even lost the two of them for a bit, apparently they didn't hear me calling for them.

We could have spent a lot more time wandering around than we did because it was a big place, but "Favorite Page #2" had to be at work by 6:00pm so we left earlier than we would have liked. The three of us decided that going back to a place like that would have to be a day trip so we could properly look around.

It was a great day and I look forward to our next cemetery adventure.

Barbiturates & Bulletin Boards...

I survived my afternoon with "Julia" but it was painful because I can't stand being around her. Eventually "Emily" came to work and "Julia" left, but not before making a bunch of phone calls to various doctors trying to get her hands on some pain medication again -- I'm starting to think that she is addicted to pills, as well as being an alcoholic.

Oh shit, I just realized that I forgot to post about how on the Friday before the hurricane "Julia" spent the day calling doctors trying to get them to call in a prescription for pain medication and muscle relaxers for her without going into an office for a check up. It was ridiculous and everyone who was there that day thinks that she has a problem, wait until they hear about today. I can't believe that I didn't write about this. Probably because I was worrying about my own hurricane survival.

Back to today... "Emily" and I ended up having a super slow night. We really didn't do much. I mean, "Favorite Page #2" and I finally got around to making a Library Card Sign-Up Month bulletin board -- My Department Head will be happy to see that it is done when she walks in tomorrow. But that was really all we did because no one was in the library.

Photo Booth Props...

Honestly I spent the majority of my time at work today cutting out photo booth props to use at our teen reading club party tomorrow. I decided last week when "Favorite Page #2" and I were messing around with the random props I made that it would be a great idea to create a photo booth at the teen party because lets face it, what teen doesn't like photos of themselves doing stupid things. So I figured I'd hang a flat sheet on the wall, throw some random props and costume thingies on a table, set up my tripod, take pictures of them and e-mail them the end product.

Here are the props that I cut out. If you click on them you'll be able to download them and make your own for whatever reason you'd like -- I got them all from Oh Happy Day!

Randomness In The Stacks...

"Favorite Page #2" & I were bored, so we started taking pictures in the stacks.

Spring Craft Beer Festival...

After work yesterday Justin, myself and "Favorite Page #2" went to the 2011 Spring Craft Beer Festival. We met up with a handful of other people and they proceeded to get bombed -- I was the designated driver so I didn't drink. As a result of this particular festival I have learned that "Favorite Page #2" is a loud obnoxious drunk -- If you're reading this, I'm sorry but it's true. So not only did I have to babysit my boyfriend, I had to babysit "Favorite Page #2" because I ended up having to drive him home -- I drove all over Long Island last night, which was kind of a pain. Lesson learned.

Spicy Librarians...

This fine evening I was treated to dinner by the ladies of the Youth Services Department, Lenni and both of my favorite pages. They brought me to my favorite Mexican restaurant to congratulate me on finishing my MLS last month. It was really nice and I had a great time, even though "Julia" was there.

Page Fail...

Seeing as the children were off from school yesterday we decided that it was an excellent opportunity to take out our video gaming equipment and have "Wii™ Night" in the afternoon. While the kids were playing various games "Julia" sticks her head in and starts watching. "Favorite Page #2" and a couple of others begged her to come inside and try playing Just Dance. She actually accepted and I was about to bust out my iPhone™ to videotape this potentially horrific moment and the stupid Pages made me get up and play. I wanted to kill them. We played with two other people, once we finished the song she left and I proceeded to bitch the Pages out for what they did. So yeah, I missed an opportunity to videotape "Julia" looking like a bigger idiot than normal and show it to the entire staff because the Pages don't think.

International Greet Beer Expo...

I spent this fine evening at the 3rd annual International Great Beer Expo at Nassau Coliseum -- This is the second time I've been to this particular expo. I was accompanied by Justin , Erin, my sister, "Favorite Page #2" and six other people. We had a great time going around trying the various beers and doing odd things that caused us to received glares from strangers. I didn't drink as much as the other because I drove so I had to stop drinking after the first two hours -- I don't mind so it's okay. After leaving the Beer Expo we headed to Chipotle for our traditional post Beer Expo Burrito Bowls -- Which are glorious after an evening of drinking.

Happy Birthday...

"Favorite Page #2" turned twenty one today, so I spent the evening at his birthday party. His parents got a party room at a local restaurant and invited myself, as well as some of the other library staff members to his big party.

It was a lot of fun and I'm glad that I was invited. We drank, dances and ate. It was great.

Heroic Librarians...

"Favorite Page #2" posted this on my Facebook page: 20 Heroic Librarians Who Save The World.

Bulletin Boards...

Since I kept talking about setting up for the reading club, I thought I should post the pictures of the bulletin boards that I made for it. I mean, they aren't the best boards I've ever made but they are perfectly fine for what we need them for.

The first one is the Tween/Teen club board, it is a surf shack/tiki hut and the other one is for all of the other two clubs (Read-to-Me and School-Aged), it is obviously an under water scene.

The Tween/Teen board took me hours to make because I had to staple hundreds of tiny pieces of paper to create the roof of the shack/hut. I had "Favorite Page #2" helping me with it when I started and I think he wanted to kill me. It took forever and a year, but I enjoy the way it looks as do my coworkers.

Side note: I have told all of my coworkers in the department that if they catch anyone destroying my boards that they need to kick the perpetrator out for a week on the grounds of destroying library property.
