My Favorite Podcasts

As you may or may not know, I really enjoy podcasts and because I have a decent commute to and from work I have a lot of time to listen to them. So I thought that I'd share my current favorite podcasts, as well as my OG favorites.

Take away a pocket full of science knowledge and some insane stories about what fuels these professional ologists' obsessions. Hosted by humorist and science correspondent Alie Ward.
Ologies is hands down my favorite new podcast. Alie (Whom I'm a big fan of from Slumber Party with Alie & Georgia) teased this podcast forever before it dropped and it was so worth the wait. In each episode Alie talks to a different ologist about their field of study and it is so fucking fascinating. She has managed to make me interested in things like Horology (Which was the answer to a question on HQ the other day) and has made me want to study Thanatology (Like I took an introductory webinar on it from the Art of Dying Institute in December). It is just so captivating and funny, and I honestly look forward to each new episode.

Comedian and self-proclaimed "beauty passionista" Jackie Johnson attempts to take the seriousness, mysteries, and intimidation out of makeup and skincare as she gabs with fellow artists about what beauty and self-care means to them.
This podcast is vegan and cruelty-free.
Those of you that have been here for awhile know that I love love love makeup and all things beauty, so when I first heard an ad for Natch Beau while listening to My Favorite Murder I knew I had to give this podcast a try. Especially because I fell in love with Jackie Johnson after listening to her on an episode of Slumber Party with Alie & Georgia forever ago.

Natch Beau is the perfect combination of beauty talk and comedy, which are two things that I enjoy very much so. And don't let the name or description above dissuade you, even though Jackie is a vegan she isn't an obnoxious vegan. It's just a super fun podcast that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Deadly Manners is a 10 episode, dark comedy murder-mystery series set in the winter of 1954. It follows the events during the night of the affluent Billings family annual dinner party with their distinguished, eccentric guests. However, all is not fun and games as shortly after the party starts, a snowstorm begins to rage outside, trapping all the partygoers inside their host’s mansion. When a murderer starts killing off those in attendance, the guests must figure out who is responsible, or at least how to stay alive -- lest they be next. Deadly Manners was created by Ali Garfinkel and Alex Aldea. Deadly Manners stars Kristen Bell, Denis O'Hare, Alisha Boe, RuPaul, Anna Chlumsky, Timothy Simons, Michelle Visage, Alona Tal, David Cummings and is narrated by LeVar Burton.
When I heard RuPaul and Michelle Visage talk about Deadly Manners on their podcast, RuPaul: What's The Tee with Michelle Visage,  I had to give it a shot even though I don't typically listen to fiction. And I'm so glad I did because this podcast was so much fun. The story was intriguing, the actors where amazing and I couldn't wait for each week's installment.

Birthday Recap | Boozy Brunch & My Favorite Murder...

This past Saturday was my birthday and in true me fashion, I went into New York City with my sister, Day, Toni & Erin and drank a lot.

We kicked off the festivities of the day early in the afternoon by popping a bottle of champagne on the LIRR and annoying everyone else in the surrounding seats with our loud chatter until we arrived at Penn Station.

Once in the city we headed to PS 450 for brunch with unlimited mimosas, bellinis, etc. and an amazing selection of hip hop (You all should know by now, I love me some rap music) playing loudly in the background.
We ate, we drank, I cried, we drank, we laughed, I cried, we danced in our seats. It was a good time.

When our two hours was up at PS 450 we hopped in another Uber and went for few more drinks and a couple of "moments" at The 13th Step. I don't remember how long we were there because by the time I had to leave I was double fisting drinks, which is never a good thing for my liver or memory.

But yeah, we parted ways outside of The 13th Step and earlier than we'd normally stop partying because it was time for my sister and I to head to the Beacon Theatre to see My Favorite Murder live.
Unfortunately when we arrived at the Beacon we were pretty drunk, so my sister bought us a couple of boxes of popcorn and we devoured them in an attempt to sober up. Which surprisingly, at least in my case, worked. So I got to enjoy an hour-ish of seeing Karen and Georgia live, with a pretty interesting hometown murder from an audience member -- My sister not so much so, she fell asleep during Karen's murder (She's not a Murderino, she didn't know what I was taking her to, so it's okay).

After the show we got an Uber and headed back to Penn Station to go home because we were pretty beat by then.

All in all it was a very good birthday. I'm so grateful for everyone that came out and dealt with me. I can honestly tell all of you that I have a pretty amazing group of friends and a bad ass little sister.

Podcast | You Must Remember This (Charles Manson's Hollywood)...

As I mentioned last month, I am currently obsessed with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark's podcast My Favorite Murder and have been listening to the episodes as soon as they've been popping up in my feed. Well in one of their episodes they mentioned a podcast called You Must Remember This (Specifically the Charles Manson series) and I started listening to it the other day. Oh my God, I binge listened to all twelve of the episodes and wish that there were more. It was this amazingly researched and produced series that went into the history of Charles Manson, his family and the events surrounding/leading up to the infamous killings. It was so good and if you're interested in true crime, Manson or whatever, you should give this podcast a listen because it was just so entertaining and intriguing.
Here is the synopsis of this series from the podcast's website:
This season, You Must Remember This will explore the murders committed in the summer of 1969 by followers of Charles Manson, and the Hollywood music and movie scene surrounding the killings. Throughout the series, we’ll learn how a single sociopath’s thwarted dreams of fame and fortune led to the gruesome events which became the symbolic “end of the sixties.” Future episodes will explore the various celebrities, musicians, movie stars and filmmakers (including Roman Polanski, Sharon Tate, The Beach Boys, Dennis Hopper, Doris Day and more) whose paths crossed with Manson’s in meaningful ways, both leading up to the murders and in their aftermath. Today, we’ll talk about what was going on in the show business capital that made Manson seem like a relatively normal guy. Then we'll lay out the basic facts of who was killed, and how, in order to begin to explain how these unthinkable crimes fit in to the tapestry of one of the most tumultuous times in Hollywood history.
If you give it a listen, let me know. I'm dying to talk to someone about this podcast!

Podcasts | My Favorite Murder...

Last year I wrote a post dedicated to my then new obsession, podcasts. Since that post I've become even more obsessed with podcasts as a form of driving entertainment, and as of several weeks ago I've found a new podcast that I'm totally loving and I just had to share it with all of you. It's called My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark and it's basically Georgia from Slumber Party with Alie & Georgia (Which is my all time favorite podcast) talking with Karen Kilgariff about their favorite true crime/murder cases (i.e. - JonBenét Ramsey, Paul Bernardo, etc.) as well as hometown crime stories from friends and fans. And it is just fascinating, that is if you're into true crime and/or murder -- Which I obviously am, and yes I realize that that statement sounds creepy.
If My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark sounds like something that is up your alley you can find it on iTunes and Feral Audio. They also have a private Facebook group that you can join that wont show up on your feed so your friends wont think you're a creep.
If it doesn't sound like it's a podcast you'd enjoy here are some of my other favorites...
If you have any podcast recommendations I'd love to know!
