Seven Questions...

1. What is your favorite day of the week and why?
Honestly, my favorite day of the week is whenever I have off from work. Especially when it is a random day in the work week and I can just do randomness.

2. If you decided to change your name, what would you change it to?
I'm not sure... Misfit is a pretty bad ass name.

3. What is one product you use (it can be for anything) that you feel is a miracle worker?
Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat is amazing and if I didn't have it my nail polish would look like crap. I actually have a professional size refill bottle of it at home because I use it so much.

4. High heels, flats, sneakers, or boots?
Not that it is a choice, but flip flops all the way.

5. You see your favorite celebrity (it can be any kid of celebrity- movie star, singer, writer, political leader, blogger) walking down the street, what do you do?
If they were just walking down the street I'd go over and say hello. If I thought I was bothering them I wouldn't do anything but maybe snap a picture from my cellphone.

6. If you could pick one item to never have to pay for again, what would it be?
Gas. It's expensive as hell.

7. What was your favorite TV show or movie growing up?
Favorite TV show/movie growing up... Hmm... Um, I guess I'd have to go with The Little Mermaid (1989) which I have vivid memories of from my childhood.

365 Days Of Pictures: Day 227...

New York Comic Con: Day Two...

I was off from work today so I got to go back to New York Comic Con, but today I went with Erin. Again I was disappointed -- Erin had never been before so she had nothing to compare it to, but she didn't seem to have enough patience for it after a while. I was disappointed because they changed the layout of the showroom floor, there was less swag to be gotten and it just didn't feel the same. I'm really considering e-mailing the event coordinators and complaining about all of the changes (Lenni was saying yesterday that she wanted to do the same about the new Professional Day).

The highlight of the whole thing was that I finally bought myself a copy of the newly reissued Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi (Which is my favorite manga and anime of all time) and I got a free Sailor Moon poster (Which I shall hang up at my desk). Also I got to see Stan Lee and I have a picture of him Aside from that, I had an okay time.

Will I go again next year? Of course because I don't actually pay for my pass to attend or the train fare. I'm hoping that they will learn from this years mistakes and next time around it will be better.

365 Days Of Pictures: Day 226...

I died when I noticed the caution sign in front of the poster for the Twilight graphic novels. I actually bought the first one for the library and no one has ever checked it out, which makes me extremely happy because I hate these books.

New York Comic Con: Day One...

To be honest with you, I was very disappointed with today and the way that Professional Day is being run now -- I know Lenni agrees with me totally on this. Unlike in years past, this year the powers that be decided that they wanted to make Comic Con longer and in doing that they bumped Professional hours from Friday to Thursday, changed the start time and they made it so that you didn't have the option of going to a panel or walk around the showroom floor whenever you wanted. This year professional hours started at 12:00pm (until 4:00pm) and within that time you could only go to panels. You weren't allowed to enter the showroom floor until 4:00pm (until 7:00pm).

Lenni and I went to the first three panels and split after that because I needed to catch a 4:30pm train back to where Justin lives because we had tickets to see Ghostbusters in theaters this fine evening. So basically I got no swag today, but since I'll be going again tomorrow I'll have to hit the floor hard with Erin and we're gonna have to get swag until we drop.

Excited About Tomorrow...

I'm so excited because tomorrow is New York Comic Con aka my favorite work day of the year! As always Lenni and I will be attending together and we will shall collect as much crap as humanly possible and claim we did it all in the name of professional development.

In addition to collecting swag we'll be attending at least two of the panels listed below because lets face it, going to panels takes away from collecting as much swag as humanly possible, which is our favorite thing about going -- Who doesn't love free crap?!

Digital Comics & Libraries - Past, Present & Future

Description:
Digital comics and graphic novels are more available to readers than ever before and in different formats for a variety of platforms. Increasing numbers of major comics publishers are going to a "day and date structure" of publishing, which gives readers a choice of print and digital versions of newly released comics. What implications does this hold for libraries and comics readers that depend on libraries to provide them with their favorite story lines and graphic novels? David Lisa and Michael Maziekien will take a look at the history of digital comics, what's happening now and what the future might hold for cooperation between digital comics publishers and libraries.

Video Game Collection Development for Libraries

Description:
A library by definition, are collections of media. Librarians have terrific resources on building and maintaining material collections in various media such as books, movies, and music, however, there is a severe lack of information on how to build and maintain video game collections. This session will give attendees a solid foundation for starting and maintaining a video game collection, with a specific focus on collection development tools and budgeting. Issues raised include how to judge game content, the inclusion of older games in loanable collections, the educational and recreational value of game collections, the important role game collections will play in the future of libraries, how schools and libraries can work together using gaming as a media tool, and sustaining the quality and relevance of game collections.

Graphic Novels and Libraries: Beyond the Basics

Description:
As graphic novels continue to enjoy wider representation and circulation in libraries around the country, new challenges and issues face librarians. This panel will delve into those concerns as well as explore new opportunities for libraries. Topics covered will include—but certainly not be limited to—digital strategies, increasing budgets for graphic novel collections, what to do when you start running out of shelf space, promoting the collection to adult patrons and nontraditional audiences (like teachers, homeschooling parents, and others), and much more.

It's Official...

My Director and Department Head just agreed to let Lenni and I go to New York Comic Con next month and I am so excited. The minute I heard it was confirmed I ran upstairs, grabbed Lenni and had one of the Payroll Ladies buy our tickets for us. So I officially have my ticket and I will be attending October 13th for professional hours and on October 14th for myself.

Now that I have the tickets the biggest question is should I get dressed up again this year. I'm thinking that I'll go in jeans and a t-shirt on Thursday, then on Friday I'll do it up. I'll have to think about it. I'll let you know what I decide...
