Overdue Archives: I Love You...

I'm a really big fan of non-fiction books that involve randomness that people find, mail in, etc. Like "Other People's Love Letters" by Bill Shapiro (2007) or "Milk, Eggs, Vodka: Grocery Lists Lost and Found" by Bill Keaggy (2007). So I was looking online to see if there were any books along that line that I haven't read already and while I was doing so it made me think of this one day when I was a Page.

Summer of 2005: I was paging in adult fiction (yeah, I know it sounds dirty) and I found this little piece of paper that said "I Love You!" on it -- Obviously I thought it was amusing. As I continued putting books away I kept finding more scattered throughout the stacks. I probably found twenty of them hidden on random shelves in the stacks and on the floor. It was just so odd to me that someone would take the time to randomly do that.

I know it wasn't the most interesting thing that I've ever dealt with throughout my duration at the library but this is what I thought of today.

Health Code Violation...

Okay, I'm at work right now and there are a bunch of people (adults and children) walking around without shoes on. I told them that they need to put their shoes on but they never listen.

Reasons Shoes Need To Be Kept On:
  1. It is a health code violation not to wear shoe in the library.
  2. It is gross. Our carpet is nasty and God knows what is in it.
  3. One could get hurt (i.e. - A book could fall on one's feet)
Why do people lack common sense?!

Computerless...

I was off from work today, which was a good thing because our computer systems were supposed to be down for the whole day. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that train wreck. Instead of having to deal with not having our OPAC and our operating system up and running I got to spend my day shopping. I'll spare you the details of my shopping excursion, but I just felt the need to gloating about my stress free day while everyone at the library had to deal with this crap. I bet they wished they still had a card catalog.

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-Six...

Day 26 — Your week, in great detail
Okay, so here is the week of June 21st 2010- June 28th 2010...

Monday June 21st
I worked 9:00am-5:00pm, then I went to Erin's appartment to hang out with her and Nicole. Nicole made us dinner and then we went to Target to buy randomness. After Target I drove them home and I went back to my house to go to sleep.

Tuesday June 22nd
We launched our summer reading club at the library. We had a face painter come in and I had her paint an octopus on my face -- I really wanted a zombie fish but my department head said no.

I left work early because my cousin Yvette came up from Virgina with her dog Samantha to visit. On my way to my house I picked up a couple of pizzas because that is typically what she wants to eat when she comes to visit and we just hung out for the rest of the night.

Wednesday June 23rd
I worked from 9:00am-1:00pm then I went home to hang out with Yvette and Krissy. We went to try and get our nails done but little did we realize that it was the day before prom, so we scheduled an appointment for Friday at 5:15pm. So we went to the beauty supply shop, where I ended up picking up a bunch of nail polish.

After that we went food shopping for random supplies and then we went to get 10¢ wings at one of the local ale houses with my parents. We followed that up by just hanging around my house.

Thursday June 24th
I didn't really do anything in the AM, but I had work from 1:00pm-9:00pm. Work was boring, but we ordered in food from my favorite seafood place and had a feast. After work I went home.

Friday June 25th
I worked 9:00am-5:00pm. While I was at work Justin e-mailed me and asked me if I wanted to have lunch with him, so he came to get me around 1:00pm and we walked over my favorite panini place to have samichs. We hung out for the hour and then he walked me back to work and I continued my work day.

After work I went to get a pedicure with Yvette and Krissy. Erin, Nicole and Eileen were all already there with their situation's buffed. I had a wonderful pedicure and eyebrow wax, Yvette did not. She was pissed! Once we were done at the nail salon we went back to my house.

Saturday June 26th
We (Justin, Krissy, Yvette, Erin & Mike #1) went to see the Mets play the Twins. Before the game we got to go to an open bar that came with the tickets we bought, plus a free appetizer.

Once the game started we got to see Prince Harry throw out the first pitch and then we sat to watching the Twins spank the Mets (6-0) in the hot hot sun. After the game we went home to veg out because the sun is draining.

Sunday June 27th
See yesterday's 30 Challange post.

Monday June 28th
I worked 9:00am-5:00pm. I got a lot of attitude from parents in the AM. Yvette came to the library around 1:00pm and we went to have pizza for lunch. After lunch we got some Italian ices and walked back to the library. I worked the rest of the day, then I went home.

Everyone Poops...

Today I had a daddy come in with a baby and a toddler. The toddler needed her diaper changed so he asked me if he could go into the Ladies Room to do it. I have never had anyone ask me that before, so I honestly didn't know the answer. Plus no one else was in the department with me at the time. Because I didn't answer him fast enough he bitched me out. I tried to tell him that we have strict bathroom policies in the building and that they won't let the transgender woman use the Ladies Room. He got mad and loud with me because he isn't transgender and his kid made a "doodie." I asked him if he checked the Men's Room to see if there was a changing table there and I just got more attitude from him. I finally checked the restroom to see if anyone was in it and since there wasn't I let him use it so he'd leave me alone. But before he did and after the attitude I got he had the nerve to ask me for a plastic bag to put his kid's diaper in. Ugh!

My Aunt The TwiMom...

I just found out that my aunt was in the Daily News last Friday (June 25th, 2010). How is this library related you ask? It's because she was featured in an article on adult Twilight (2005) fans -- Adult Entertainment: 'Twilight' Tweens Have Got Nothing on These Grown-up Fang Fanatics. Weird... I know. I personally don't like the Twilight series (Stephenie Meyer), so I think her fandom is absurd but to each their own.

Another Library Article...

Here is another article from the Huffington Post about libraries: Libraries Delivering Technology For All.

Save The Libraries...

Seeing as no one is currently at work with me and there are like no patrons in, I'm sitting around reading the Huffington Post and I just came across this article: Libraries and Librarians Are Endangered Species: What You Can Do to Help.

The idea of closing libraries is atrocious to me. People who care need to start joining or forming "Friends of the Library" programs/groups to help out their local libraries in these hard times. Libraries are essential parts of communities and offer so many wonderful programs, materials, etc. I'll step off my soap box now.

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-Five...

Day 25 — Your day, in great detail
Okay, here it goes... I woke up at 8:10am, which I never do on a Sunday but I did it because on Friday my next door neighbor gave me his son's pimpin' Mets tickets (Section 115) and my father decided that we should get to Citi Field madd early because he wanted to watch batting practice and such.

Justin came over around 9:30am and we hung around the house for a bit before going to a deli to pick up some sandwiches to bring with us to the ballgame. After picking up our food we headed to Citi Field, arriving there a little after 11:00am and receiving our free Mets travel mugs. We went into the Mets museum, browsed around the Team Shop, went to various clubs seeing as we had the tickets to do so. Eventually we went to our seats and just hung out. The game started at 1:10pm and it was super hot out. We stayed the entire length of the game and watched the Mets beat the Twins (6-0) -- My dad even caught a t-shirt during the Pepsi T-Shirt Launch which he gave to Yvette.

After the game we went back to my house for dinner. It was random BBQed food that I didn't eat because I don't eat meat with the exception of the occasional piece of yummy yummy bacon.

Justin stuck around for a litte after dinner, then he went home. Once he left I went to take a much needed shower seeing as it was crazy hot outside. Then I watched Jurassic Park (1993) until it was time for True Blood (2008-Present). I actually stayed home and watched True Blood because I spent the day in the sun and did not have the energy to go to Erin's apartment.

Once the show was over I went upstairs to actually come write this post and I saw that I had a bunch of missed phone calls and text messages from Erin and Phil because I didn't actually tell anyone I wasn't going over there -- My bad. And now I'm hanging out in my air conditioned room watching TV.

Is that enough detail?

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-Four...

Day 24 — Whatever tickles your fancy
I went to yet another Mets game today with the usual suspects -- Justin, Erin, Krissy, Yvette (my favorite cousin) and Mike #1. It was actually pretty sweet because we spent $30.00 each and got one hour of free drinks (all of the taps and well drinks) & one free appetizer from McFadden's, field level seats and one free drink at McFadden's after the game.

We had a good time even though the Mets lost to the Twins (0-6) and it was super hot outside -- Alcohol makes everything better. What was also pretty cool about the day was the fact that Prince Harry threw out the first pitch of the game.

Go Read a Book You Illiterate Son of a Bitch & Step Up Your Vocab...

For those of you that don't know anything about libraries I've decided that I'm gonna haphazardly throw in library vocabulary/slang/lingo, so that you may become enlightened to the world of libraries.

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-Three...

Day 23 — A YouTube video
It is really stupid, but this is one of my favorite YouTube videos.

Excuse You...

Work was slow but I have things to complain about in regards to my stupid coworker. Okay, I understand that people pass gas, but do you really need to do it multiple times at the reference desk and not even acknowledge or excuse yourself to the people around you. What the hell is wrong with people?

Better Overdue Than Never...

For some odd reason no one has been in the library for days. Since no one has been around doing anything worthy enough to fuel my blog, I've decided that I'll do throwback entries when we're in lulls. I'll title them "Overdue Archives: _________" and blog about a weird thing that has happened within my six years in the library.

Picture Books...

I ♥ picture books! They are just so cute and fun. I think everyone should read more picture books.

Bulletin Boards...

Since I kept talking about setting up for the reading club, I thought I should post the pictures of the bulletin boards that I made for it. I mean, they aren't the best boards I've ever made but they are perfectly fine for what we need them for.

The first one is the Tween/Teen club board, it is a surf shack/tiki hut and the other one is for all of the other two clubs (Read-to-Me and School-Aged), it is obviously an under water scene.

The Tween/Teen board took me hours to make because I had to staple hundreds of tiny pieces of paper to create the roof of the shack/hut. I had "Favorite Page #2" helping me with it when I started and I think he wanted to kill me. It took forever and a year, but I enjoy the way it looks as do my coworkers.

Side note: I have told all of my coworkers in the department that if they catch anyone destroying my boards that they need to kick the perpetrator out for a week on the grounds of destroying library property.

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-Two...

Day 22 — A website
A website? What about a website? I visit tons of websites...

Hmm... Well, I just found this website: Oliva (à Paris) and I am intrigued by it even though it is in French and I have no clue what it is about. I know, I'm weird.

June 23, 2010

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty-One...

Day 21 — A recipe
This is actually pretty funny because I just attempted to make Justin's grandmother's pignoli cookies. I say attempted because they totally didn't come out right, which blows because they are expensive cookies to make -- I must say that even though I failed at making them like Grandma's they still tasted good.

June 22, 2010

30 Day Challenge: Day Twenty...

Day 20 — A hobby of yours
I love all arts and crafts... I sew, crochet, paint, draw, etc... I am the arts and crafts guru at work. I rock all of the craft demos that I have to make and I very much so enjoy making my own demos of other people's crafts to show everyone in the department that I'm the bestest -- My coworkers are the most uncreative people you have ever met. But yeah, Me + Arts and Crafts = Awesomeness.

June 21, 2010

Mini Rant: Restaurants...

Mini Rant: I don't understand why there are commercials for restaurants/fast food joints that aren't anywhere near where I live. It is one of those stupid things that urkes the crap out of me because I feel like it is so necessary.
  • Golden Corral
  • Dairy Queen
  • CC's Pizza
  • Sonic
Those are just some of the culprits. I just don't understand...

Make a Splash Read...

I spent the whole day setting up our summer reading club "Make a Splash Read" -- If you don't know anything about summer reading programs typically just about every library in the USA will buy into the same theme, so you can walk into almost any library anywhere throughout the country and they will be doing some variation of whatever theme was picked for that year. I created bulletin boards, photocopied last minute odds and ends, went to the pet store to buy eight bettas for our weekly raffle, etc.

It was really quiet even though the kids aren't in school because all the bad kids were banned for a week by our security guard. So, I should have a peaceful week.

Oh Sookie...

I love True Blood (2008-Present), so of course I have to post Snoop Dogg's tribute to Miss. Sookie Stackhouse.

30 Day Challenge: Day Nineteen...

Day 19 — A talent of yours
Hmm... I don't know if this is a talent or not, but I'm a wealth of stupid knowledge. It is ridiculous how much useless knowledge is stored in my brain. At work I'm always spewing out random facts about things, thus my coworkers tell me I should be on game show like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (1998-Present).

I love facts. I guess it is a big reason why I'm a librarian.

Father's Day 2010...

For Father's Day we took my father to a Cuban restaurant in Queens called Ricon Criollo. It was awesome, we all really enjoyed it -- My father was born in Cuba and is really picky about Cuban food, but this food was real old school Cuban food and he really enjoyed. We totally pigged out and ordered way too much food -- Which is the norm when we go out to dinner, so we took tons of food home.
The best part of the meal was dessert. They had Dulce de Leche Cortada --In English they called it "Curdle Milk Dessert" which is in the picture next to the Cuban coffee. It sounds weird, but it is so good and it is so hard to find.

30 Day Challenge: Day Eighteen...

Day 18 — Whatever tickles your fancy
I figured I'd use this as an opportunity to post the random pictures I took as I was leaving Governors Island and riding on the ferry.

Random church on Governors Island.

The sun over the water of the East River.

The water splashing against the side of the ferry.

The Statue of Liberty chillin' on an angle.

Pier 17 and the Brooklyn Bridge.

New York Brewfest 2010 Revisited...

So, I spent my day at New York Brewfest and I was underwhelmed. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect which is why the event sold out -- We had a friend who couldn't get tickets. Governors Island itself was beautiful, I would totally go back to have picnic and go for a bike ride, but I would not go back for another Brewfest. I feel like the organizers sold too many tickets (I believe I heard someone say that they sold 10,000 tickets) and didn't know what they were doing, this was extremely evident when it came to exiting the island and organizing ferries back to Manhattan.

Justin and I thought that because of the length of the event and the number of breweries participating that it was worth the sixty-something dollars we each paid, but it wasn't -- We've gone to other BeerExpos that were smaller and shorter in length that we've thoroughly enjoyed. The lines to get beer and food were ridiculous -- We waited on lines for twenty minutes plus minutes, which was crazy. Tons of people were cutting the lines. It just wasn't as much fun as the other events we've attended together.
We got tired of it all very early and decided to leave. Apparently so did everyone else and their mothers. The lines to get on the ferries were stupid ridiculous. Because of this we decided it would be easier to take the ferry to Brooklyn instead of the one to Manhattan. So we waited on the Brooklyn line forever with people cutting and pushing. Eventually we got to the dock and luckily they didn't close the gates on the Manhattan ferry, so we snuck onto that one and hitched a ride back into the City.
We are never going to Brewfest again.

New York Brewfest 2010...

Today I'm spending the day at the 4th annual New York Brewfest on Governor's Island with Justin and one of my college friends (Mike #1). A bunch of breweries are participating (which one can tell by the big ass list below), so it should be fun. I'll definitely post later on tonight or tomorrow about the event and I'm sure I'll have tons of pictures.

30 Day Challenge: Day Seventeen...

Day 17 — An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)

I do not claim to know anything about art in respects to artists and pieces that aren’t super famous, but I do appreciate artistic expression. I personally love to draw -- All of the children in Drawing Club tell me I draw well, but the majority of them are in elementary school.

I guess my favorite piece of artwork has to be Vincent Van Gogh’s June 1889 oil on canvas painting Notte Stellata (Starry Night) which is housed in New York City at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). Apparently, Van Gogh painted the piece after he committed himself in the hospital Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy. Pretty interesting.

I also love the drawing in Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” which he wrote under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. My hands down favorite is the one of Alice facing the Cheshire Cat. I prefer the black and white version, but this is the only decent copy I could find online -- If I was home I would have taken a picture of my copy of the book but I’m at Justin’s for the weekend.

June 18, 2010

Pet Peeves...

Only a handful of people actually came into the department today but the majority of them were being extremely stupid and/or disrespectful.

I had one person who was guilty of my biggest work pet peeve: People who go to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) computer, search for what they want and then come up to the desk because they don’t know how to find the call number -- You have to click on the link!!!!!!

Another big work pet peeve is one that has to do with the OPAC is when they search the catalog to find what they want and they don’t change the location to our library, so they go off looking for the item and then they come over to the desk bitching because we don’t have the item on the shelves. Then I take the call number from them, I go look, get frustrated looking for the item (I get really annoyed when I can’t find things), then I got check the OPAC for myself and find out that we never had it to begin with.

In addition to people ticking me off our normal problem children where in and they decided they didn’t wanna listen to anyone today. So after my Department Head got fed up of asking them to do various things, the security guard got involved and he told them they had to leave, because of this lots of profanity was used on their end and the director had to be called down and their parents were called.

After work another pet peeve occurred, I went to Chipotle and the people in front of me had obviously never been to a Chipotle before and didn’t know how to order. I hate when people who have never been to a Chipotle are in line before me and they don’t know how to order and they screw up the flow of the assembly line. If you don’t know what you want when you get to the counter let the person behind you go, they probably know what they want -- Vegetarian Burrito Bol: extra rice, extra black beans, two scoops of green salsa, sour cream, cheese and guacamole.

30 Day Challenge: Day Sixteen...

Day 16 — A song that makes you cry (or nearly)
Every time I hear "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole (1951) I cry. It never fails, I always cry because the song reminds me of my Abuela and she was the most important person in my life -- Thinking about the song right now actually makes me want to cry so I need to go.

Unforgettable
Unforgettable, that's what you are
Unforgettable though near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, that's how you'll stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, that's how you'll stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

And Just Like The Movies...

Work was uncharacteristically slow. Like it was ridicules. The highlight of my evening at work was I started working on one of our bulletin boards for the summer reading club.

After the most boring shift ever I went to see Erin. They just so happen to be filming for the movie Mildred Pierce down the block so we mosied on over to troll around for a bit. I took some pictures, we got to watch them film the same take over and over again and we got to see Kate Winslet from across the street.

Shake It Like A Polaroid Picture...

I was cleaning my room and I found my mother's Polaroid Spirit 600, which she got for free with the purchase of my diapers in the 80's -- If you don't believe me about free Polaroid cameras with the purchase of diapers it is mentioned here.

And now that I've found it I wanna play with it, problem is Polaroid stop making instant film for 600 cameras in 2008 and everyone selling the film wants crazy amounts of money for it. Yes, I know all about the Impossible Project, but I wanna hear from someone that I should waste $22.00 for eight pictures because it is totally worth it.

My kingdom for Polaroid 600 film!!!

30 Day Challenge: Day Fifteen...

Day 15 — A fanfic
Yeah... I don't read FanFics so I don't have anything to write about pertaining to this topic.

Let Them Shove Cake Between Their Teeth...

Today I was plagued with lockjaw while at work, so I left early -- I suffer from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD). But before I left for the day I bought a cake for "Favorite Page #1" because she graduated high school last Saturday and we ate it in celebration. Well, I attempted to eat it... It was more like me shoving tiny piece of cake between my teeth seeing as I couldn't really open or shut my mouth. I was only teased a little bit.

30 Day Challenge: Day Fourteen...

Day 14 — A non-fictional book
I love arts and crafts, so I love almost every book in the 745's -- For those of you that don't know the Dewey Decimal System that is the crafts section. Here are a couple of books that I enjoy very much so.
"The Big-Ass Book of Crafts" by Mark Montano (2008)
"Softies" by Therese Laskey (2007)
"Creeper Cute" by Christen Haden (2008)

Out Of Order...

I was unfairly yelled at by a crotchety old bastard because the copy machine "stole" his money.
  1. I didn't even turn the copy machine on in the morning because it is temperamental and doesn't work 99.9% of the time -- Which means the old man turned the machine on.
  2. I don't own the copy machine... The library doesn't even own the copy machine, so there isn't really much we can do for you -- He was lucky there was .50¢ in the adult reference desk for him to have or he would have had to suck it.
  3. Why was in necessary to yell at me? I was just the person who walked up to the desk at that particular moment.
  4. There is no need for an "Out of Order" sign on the machine because we hardly ever turn it on. When people ask us if they can make copies on the machine we tell them to go downstairs because the machine is possessed by the devil.
Ugh! I was so angry because of this dude for the longest time and then my department head pisses me off fifteen minutes later. On top of that it is officially finals season, so the kids aren't in school all day long any more. I wanted to scream, it was a bad day.

Well, at least it was a bad work day. After work I went to Erin's house to pick her up to go shopping for a "Dean Box" because it was officially the end of her three year relationship with her boyfriend. After finding the prefect "Dean Box" we went to have dinner with Phil and Rob at a Japaneses restaurant, then we hung out for a bit after and filled up the "Dean Box."

June 15, 2010

30 Day Challenge: Day Thirteen...

Day 13 — A fictional book
My Department Head was weeding the picture books we own and she got rid of this one the other day: One of Those Days by Amy Rosenthal (2006). This book was super cute and had great illustrations (done by Rebecca Doughty) that describe different types of "those days." I think pictures of the pages that correspond with my moods would be perfect to use when I post an entry while in a bad mood -- Yes, I'm a dork.

Temporary Tattoos and Broken Pieces...

Work wasn't so much fun today seeing as I spent the morning stuffing reading club packets and I almost got into a car accident during my lunch break because some stupid old woman was speeding in a parking lot. The only thing that I had to amuse myself with were temporary tattoos (one which is place on my cheek) and the Father's Day craft I did with the kiddies.

After work was better. I went shopping with my mother, then I went to hang out with Erin who currently has a broken wrist -- She slipped on the tiles in her kitchen, you can guess what followed... Erin and I went view the movie set that is currently near her apartment -- I took some pictures of the set. Then we hung out with Nicole and Eileen for the rest of the evening.

Here are pictures from the movie set:

30 Day Challenge: Day Twelve...

Day 12 — Whatever tickles your fancy
Today before I even got to work I was contemplating writing about the number one work hazard for librarians... Paper cuts. Then at work I was presented with the main cause for said work hazard... Stuffing reading club packets. Obviously, it was my destiny to discuss the matter with the world.

Paper cuts are no joke my friends. They are serious business. I currently have three and they hurt like mofos. In addition to being painful, they are expensive at the rate we get them. Band aids ain't cheap my friend. When you get three in the course of an hour and need to wrap 'em up time and money is wasted.

So, remember my friends, paper cuts are the devil.

Graduations, Sex & Cuban Food...

Yesterday I was super busy, thus I didn't get to post so I'm going to make up for that today.

The day started off with Justin's little sister's pre-school graduation and showcase. It was really cute -- Gotta love a room full of four and five-year-olds singing and dancing. After her graduation/showcase his family and I went out for breakfast at the restaurant that my sister & Nicole work at. Nicole just so happen to be working and I made plans with her to have dinner with Erin at this Cuban restaurant a couple of towns over.

When breakfast was finished I had to go to work. While at work I found out another set of kids were caught having sex in our auditorium. We are having a sex epidemic! It is like a sex crazied outbreak monkey has attacked the tweens/teens of my library. Honestly, I'm very hard to offend and I have my own twisted set of morals so it is pretty messed up that these kids have seemed to disgust me -- Missy is also not amused.

We also had anothr nuke go off in the picture book room. I swear to God I'm taking those toys out of that room when I go to work on Sunday. Screw everyone.

After work I went and had dinner with Erin and Nicole. We had a great Cuban meal -- I have very high standards for Cuban food because I'm half Cuban and my dad has taught my sister & I to be super picky about our food. I got to meet the owner and she was über nice.

By the time we got out of the restaurant it was after 9pm. I drove the girls home, dropped off the food my father asked me to pick up for him and drove to Justin's apartment with his dinner.

30 Day Challenge: Day Ten...

Day 10 — A photo of you taken over ten years ago
This picture of me was taken the year I was born (1985). I still have the doll that is in the picture and she is actually in pretty good shape.

30 Day Challenge: Day Nine...

Day 09 — A photo you took

I took this photo the other day when I went for lunch at my favorite seafood market-restaurant. For some reason they have an old Ferris wheel next to the building near the water. It is pretty sweet.

Missy The Misfit Library Mouse...

So, I got bored last night and created myself a little mascot. Her name is Missy the Misfit Library Mouse. I made her out of felt, fabric, ribbon, cardstock, batting, clear thread, fabric paint, buttons and wire. Isn't she cute?!
Here is Missy with Utley. He obviously did not like her and kept puffing up whenever she was near.

Libraries Got Game...

Instead of being trapped in the library today I got to go to a YASD (Young Adult Services Division) luncheon where one of the authors (Brian Mayer) of "Libraries Got Game" was speaking about how libraries could implement the usage of modern board games.

Brian actually was sitting at my table throughout the course of the lunch portion and he was super nice. Our table had wonderful conversations on various subjects and Brian let us try his iPad -- I totally want one now!

I won a Scrabble game during the portion of time between lunch and Brian's presentation. I donated it to my job seeing as I have a pimpin' $100.00 wooden Scrabble board that Justin bought me two Christmases ago -- I f'ing love Scrabble!

His presentation was very informative and really very interesting -- I have a nice set of notes on my iTouch, with a list of new games Justin & I need to buy.

After the luncheon I actually had to go the library because tonight was my night to work. We had a pretty lazy night. We ordered pizza, I made and colored twelve Flat Stanley's for my trip to Europe and did some stuff for the summer reading club.
